Mom's rehab experience with CC Young was excellent. They were prompt, attentive, and provided the services without having to ask twice. Her room was similar to a large well-appointed hospital room. Maintenance and upkeep were excellent. She enjoyed the meals. The staff was friendly and attentive.

My mother came to CC Young from the hospital to their short term rehab floor May 18 until May 26, 2022. We picked this facility with high hopes, intending for her to move to their long term nursing floor after rehab. It was the second most expensive option, but seemed like the best. I wish I could report a better experience; we moved her to a different facility.
CC Young is luxurious, feels like a high end hotel. There were a couple of very nice staff members. Unfortunately, that's about the only good things I can report. From the moment we got there, we encountered a culture of apathy and horrible communication. Some examples:
- The admission itself was cold and impersonal. The room was not ready when we got there; the ambulance people checked her in, and we waited. No welcome, nothing. Over an hour before the admissions nurse came in. No food set aside for mom as promised
- Mom was a full code for the first couple of days, even though a DNR was provided on admission.
- Bathroom door was broken; this bothered mom, so made 3 requests for maintenance during our week there, still broken on discharge.
- The big thing was that there was no communication: no "hey, any tips on how to get your mom to participate in therapy", no "do you have any questions, here's what to expect." Nothing. Tried several times to reach social worker who only called me back when Medicare sent them a notice that benefits would end because mom was not participating in therapy.
- It seemed that staff interacted minimally. On one visit, when I asked about the catheter she arrived with from the hospital, the nurse told me it had been removed. When I went into the room, I saw that the catheter was still in and the bag almost full. If the nurse had been in the room and interacted with my mother, how could she think that her catheter was removed? Two days before discharge, a nurse told me that they would have to remove the catheter because they did not have an order for one. Then why was it left in for a week?
- A psychiatric consult was ordered (not a bad idea, but seems like something to communicate to the family). A consult with hospice was ordered (ditto).
- I sent this list of concerns to the patient advocate and the administrators after discharge. Crickets.
I appreciated thoughtful reviews when I was searching, and I hope this helps. Maybe CC Young’s other programs are good, but if you are looking for compassion and communication in a nursing or rehab program, all I can tell you is that's not what we found.

Mediocre nursing staff that needed constant prodding to follow through on many basics. My parent ended up with skin breakdown and was not assisted to be properly cleaned even after I mentioned my concerns. Other departments were generally helpful, but nursing issues left us very frustrated. The rooms are very nice and spacious. Activities were about average for a facility like this.

CC Young is a non-profit facility, yet with their expansion plan, I have to question their motivation in furnishing the new Vista building with "over the top" fancy and impractical furnishings and artwork. I believe their priorities are misplaced in that CNA/nursing pay, benefits, and staffing levels suffer while the facility is heavy with administrators that have nothing to do with the day-to-day care of vulnerable residents.

I was a resident at C. C. Young back in May of this year. I had an emergency surgery that really depleted me. I was on Lawther Point West 2nd floor for 5 days. From the nurse aides to the administration, I received wonderful care. Everyone was kind and attentive to my unique needs. The nurse manager Ifeoma (sp?) was amazing. Therapy, especially Chris, made sure I was gaining strength and was successful at home. The building is old and there was not a shower in my room, but it was nice and clean. The positives far out weighed the negatives. When I have my follow up surgery, I will return to C. C. Young for my rehab.

My grandmother broke her foot and came here for rehab. She was there for about a month. The therapists and nursing care were amazing! She was really afraid to walk on her foot and the therapists were so kind and helpful and encouraging. She's now been at home for a few months and she still raves about the therapists (she even stalks a few of them on facebook). The nursing staff was always really kind and helpful. They answered the call light quickly, they were responsive to her needs, and they seemed to know her. Like when I was visiting her, they would check in on her and every time they asked if she wanted coffee, they knew she was a chain-coffee-drinker and she told me her cup never got cold or empty. The food was really good too. I stayed for lunch several times and it was all really good! Even the meatloaf (which is usually really bland and institutional at places like this) was flavorful! I had an issue that my gma is diabetic yet they still served desserts. The dietitian called me on my cell to talk to me about it. She said that they do a really reduced portion of carbs and a few adjustments on breads so that way the clients still get to enjoy the sweet but it won't be enough to adversely affect her blood sugar. She assured me that if she was a brittle diabetic (she's not), they'd remove desserts if necessary. But she checked all her blood sugars and there was never an issue. She and I both really appreciated how they cared for her. If she needs anything again, we'd totally go back.

I visited CC Young memorial Home in order to complete service hours for my school. At first I was dubious because I had heard horror stories about how residents were treated in some nursing homes, but as soon as I arrived at CC Young my fears were put to rest. The facilities were beautiful and it looked liked a place that I would recommend to anybody with elderly parents. The staff was welcoming to all of us who came to play bingo and interact with the patients. The patients seemed satisfied and well cared for. It touched me that the home would organize opportunities for the residents to interact with the community outside of the home. The indoor facilities were immaculate and the general atmosphere was one of contentment. The staff joked around with the residents and generally brightened up whatever room they were in. Even when a resident would get irritated the staff was friendly and showed great patience. Overall it was a great home to visit and I would encourage any elderly person or relative to an elderly person looking for an assisted living facility to seriously consider CC Young Memorial Home.

My grandmother was resident at CC Young for over five years. The time she spent in the independent living section was quite nice and she enjoyed the comradity of the 'dorm style' setting. She spent a short time in assisted, also a positive experience and living quarters, before falling and moving in the nursing building--Young Building 1. On her final day of life, I found the nursing staff to be helpful during my daytime visit, but the night nurse I spoke with over the phone later in the evening to check on her deteriorating condition was unprofessional and rude and passed along incorrect information saying she was 'fine'. Hours later she was not 'fine' and transported to ICU at a nearby hospital. Although overall community is nice, the nursing staff could use a refresher course in courtesy. I have left a message for the Director of Nursing to see if this situation will be addressed for future residents and their families.
