Overall, my experience with Lakewest was a good one. The facility is relatively new, as it just opened last summer (2011). Lakewest is beautifully decorated, not at all like a traditional nursing home. One very comforting safety feature they have is that the interior doors are code activated so no one can enter or exit without the staff knowing. When you walk in, you are immediately struck by how much care went into making the facility feel like an upscale resort or hotel - even the patients' rooms had dark wood floors and furniture. The facility has quite a few common areas set up like living rooms for families to congregate in and visit with their loved ones. The staff is very attentive and just about everyone treated my grandmother like a family member instead of resident. I feel quite confident that my grandmother received the best care at Lakewest.
