My wife and I moved to Highland Springs Continuing Care Community in Far North Dallas in the spring of 2013 after researching other communities in the Dallas/Plano area. Our primary motivation for moving was due to my wife’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. We knew that she would eventually need continuing care beyond what I could to personally provide long term. After 3 ½ years living here we now know it was best decision we could have made. In the beginning, we lived in a spacious 2 bedroom, 2 bath independent living apartment. The greatest thing about moving here was the professional friendly staff and friendly residents. Highland Springs has a culture and values focused on resident satisfaction. Monthly Town Hall meetings keep residents aware of the many programs and activities. Management solicits residents’ input for opportunities to make all residents’ lives better. This is the only community that I am aware of that has in-house security/EMS, a Medical Center staffed with 3 physicians, 4 medical assistants, and a medical specialty suite for visiting specialists, plus 2 social workers and a home support team to enable residents to remain living independently as long as possible. There is also a Wellness Center with a large swimming pool, fully equipped gym and personal trainers, spa, putting golf course, green house and gardening spaces. Also, there are 3 dining venues with more than 24 different meal choices every day. The food is well prepared and delicious. Once a higher level of continuing care (assisted living, memory care, acute care, rehabilitation or long term care) may be needed, as is the case with my wife, specialized caregivers are trained and managed to insure the best possible care with 24/7 caregivers on duty, on duty nurses and regular doctor visits. My wife has had a few critical health situations develop since moving to memory care: a stroke, a seizure, aspiration and some difficult behaviors that are typical of Alzheimer’s patients. In every case, these situations have been responded to speedily, competently and effectively. She has benefited from the many socialization activities planned and conducted by a programs manager and assistants, like music therapy, games, exercises, walks around a beautiful lake, with caregivers and visitors. Because my wife has been well cared for in Highland Springs Fountain View memory-dementia care facility, I know she is safe, well, and content, as much as possible. I am easily able visit her every day. This is our personal experience at Highland Springs over the last 3 ½ years. I highly recommend Highland Springs to anyone seeking the best senior care facility in this area.

After my mom's knee surgery, she went to Highland Springs for rehab and LOVED IT. I am positive the care she received there ensured the success of her recovery. After her recovery was complete, she chose to move into active living part of the community and it has made such a difference in her life. She is part of a community that cares about her and her well being, has made a ton of friends and lives life with renewed purpose!

We liked Highland Springs in the Dallas area best of all for our financial situation and what we will get for the money. It’s our choice. We like the location. It was located convenient to our family and major highways in a large, gated, growing community with all of the amenities we were looking for. It’s a continuing care faciity where they have memory care. My husband has Alzheimer’s, and we were looking for a place that would have different facilities on-site. We liked all of the activities they offered. It was a big complex with lots to do and well maintained. They had a parking garage. It’s very nice. The rooms were up to date and large. The staff was awesome, very friendly, not pushy, understanding of our needs, and easily available.

We would NOT recommend Highland Springs to anyone. We had our father in the memory care facility at Highland Springs from Fall 2014 to Fall 2015. The experience was very traumatic. While it's a beautiful looking facility we had numerous issues. First, there were multiple instances where our father fell and was left lying on the ground for several hours. We had a camera in our room so we could see the time he was left there. Even though the staff said they would do hourly checks after the first incident we kept having this issue come up. We moved to having a caregiver at night, but found that we needed someone there 24/7 due to the lack of care (at one point he lost part of his finger when it got caught in a door). We weren’t the only ones with additional staff. We also found ourselves having to take our dad to the hospital for random medical issues and having to actively manage his day to day care – this despite the fact that they have caregivers, nursing and doctors on staff. Finally, the costs became extremely expensive. Not only were we paying more out of pocket for the additional care, but there was no cap on what they can charge. We heard some people ended up being charged thousands of dollars extra a month because their points kept going up (they have a point system which is the basis of how they charge). Ultimately we felt our father was neither safe nor happy, and all this while our costs kept going up. It was extremely difficult to move him as anyone can imagine, but it is night and day with our new set up. The new facility really understands how to manage their residents, works as a cohesive unit with the family, the doctor, their nurses and staff to give him truly quality care. We are now visiting family members as opposed to active managers of our dad’s care and we have never had to take him to the ER/hospital. Finally, we pay the same monthly rate no matter what happens for the duration.

Highland Springs was really nice, but we would like to be separate from everybody else, not like in a hotel. Everybody was really nice, but it's like a big dormitory with long hallways. They have a lot of activities like aerobics, dominos, bridge, painting classes, and a pool.

The staff at Highland Springs was very nice, but the two-bedroom assisted living place was too expensive. The room was clean and kind of spacious but not as big as the one we have now. It had good food. We didn’t want to have to deal with a buy-in that our kids would have to deal with it after we’re gone. They could be more competitive in their pricing.

When I went to Highland Springs the first time, what I thought was going to be a one-level situation in fact gets built upon, so it was four stories and has been dashed up so much since I was there that I was not very happy with it. They were very nice, and I know that in the long-run that is very important.

I liked Highland Springs. It won’t work for my mom because she has dementia, but if she didn’t have the dementia, it would have worked quite well. It’s a very nice place for independent living. They are to set you up with a group of friends right away once she has moved in. They have lots of activities that are going on. They take you whatever grocery store you want to go to. They have various religions there, and they get together whatever religion you are; they gather a couple of times a month. They had many groups, and when I was there I saw about 50 groups -- some gardening group, book club, poetry club, cosmetology, Math, and architecture.

I was looking for a rehab facility for my mother after she had a fall. It was part of a skilled nursing, and it was a short term with the idea that she will be going home. I didn't feel that Highland Springs was doing enough for her; that's why she was moved. But part of it was my mother's situation. For a long time because of the fever, she was not able to do adequate rehab, so it took longer. But I felt there was a better ways to do things in talking with several of the caregivers so we moved her. She had a private room that looked homey. Aside from the hospital type bed, they have a table and chair. They have covering for the windows and wooden furniture for the dresser. The food is actually very good. They have activities for the residents like movie night and game nights. They have people that come in like students from the local school. There was quite a bit offered.

I have a very close friend who was sick a while back and she's at Highland Springs. The environment is beautiful. The food is good. They have activities and she participates in educational things mostly. She also plays cards. They have Church services. They have a priest come in for the Catholics and then, they usually have one for the basic denomination. I think that's good. The have a beautiful pool. Everything is top-notch. However, I didn't like that place because she needs more assistance that what she has from them. You don't feel the care, the empathy and I think they need to give more personal attention to people. They are quite expensive. She didn't have a fair deal as far as moving in to an older unit. I just didn't appreciate that for her. There's a problem with their parking space also, because there are a lot of people are not able to drive their cars, but they are still have their cars in the underground parking and there are people who are able to drive but they can't have underground parking.

I found Highland Springs eight months ago for my mother. I found this on my own accord and I'm very pleased with it. It is extremely clean and neat. I like best the quality of their care. It is very caring and very giving. The staff's work ethic is exceptional. The food is very good. The service is very good. I'm very happy about this facility and my mother is happy over there as well.

Highland Springs was one of the two facilities that we really like. Their assisted living and memory care facilities were not in the main building; they were separate. The environment and their working staff were very nice. We like it a lot. We spent a night there. We did have dinner and the food was excellent. My only comment was that, I thought we had reservations for 6 p.m. but it was close to 7 by the time we got in. I thought that was a little extended wait. Also there seemed to be an awful lot of people waiting at that time.

Me and my husband already chose Highland Springs, but we haven't moved in yet. The facility not only has assisted living but it also has independent living and memory care, and we will start with independent. They have nice and bigger apartments with lots of choices. They are cheaper compared to the ones we looked at. The staff are very helpful. They would do anything for us to get us move there. They have many activities. They have green house, they have an exercise room, they also have a pool for exercise and for swimming. They have 30 different organizations that you can belong to. They have two doctors and a podiatrist on site. Definitely, I would recommend it.
