My dad moved to The Heritage of Cy-Fair. They're a smaller facility which is better for him. He likes it. The food is good, he says. It's a big compliment.
They're still working on their activities. They're in-between activity directors but they still keep them active with other things. They also have people that come by and do stuff with them. It's an only-memory care facility. The rooms have a toilet and a sink for the bathroom, but they take them for showers or baths. The rooms are nice, they're a good size and he can find everything. One of the features is when he looks into the room or opens the closet door or bathroom door, the lights come on for him. The dining rooms are nice, there are a couple of them. And they have a couple of big family rooms for different wings. It's tiptop shape, it's clean, nice and it's been remodeled very recently so it's more up-to-date. I was shocked with the money, it has jumped about 75% since five or six years ago, and I think that's too much, but it is what it is. This place seemed more personal. I've seen several of the same faces a lot of the time when it comes to the staff. Another thing I like is that there's an on-duty nurse Monday through Friday, and she's on-call. And there's another nurse on-call also over the weekend in case they have any conflict. They also have a medical dispensary staff. We had a meal there, it's good and nutritious.

I absolutely love this place. From the first time I visited and sat with, then director Mike, I felt welcomed and knew my dad would receive the best care. The staff that is there today is the best staff anyone could have for their loved ones. They are personable and very attentive. They spoil my dad so much. Byrd, Takesha, Tessie, Marissa, Noemi... All of these ladies are God's angels of mercy and it shows in the staff they have bought on. The family nights and family days are awesome. Each holiday there is a different theme set and games to accompany.
The facility is kept immaculate. Never to find anything out of place.
I don't have a negative word to say about Tessie and her staff. I can't even think of one. If you are looking for a safe and caring place for your loved one, this is the place. Only God could have sent me here to find his Angels to care for my dad.

My dad's been here for two months now, and he is very happy. Everybody has been very helpful, and they are very nice. The room is small, but it was big enough to put his bed, a dresser, and a chair in. He's got the medium sized room, but he is never in it; he is always out. He used to sit in his room all day when he was at the retirement apartment and he didn't do anything but watch TV, but now he is up and about and doing all their activities. I just spoke with him today, and he really likes it. First off, he starts out with a good breakfast, and then they have exercise classes and singing. You get a calendar every month that lists everything and things that are for other families to join in or just the things that they do every day. I think there are three or four large TV rooms where people can sit and watch TV if that is what they want to do. They do have scheduled activities, and he really likes it. Of course, they had somebody going with him the first day showing him everything. I am happy, and he is happy.
They have locked doors, and you have to sign in and out, but as a relative, you have your card and key, but the doors lock behind you. There are two things I liked most: one, it is right in my neighborhood, so it's only a few minutes away; and two, it never has smelled like a nursing home. It is clean and bright, they talk to the residents by their first name, and everybody that sees him was like, "Hi, Don. How are you doing?" I mean it is a constant thing, and I really have been quite happy with it.
If you ask them, they'll say the food is not very good. On the other hand, they are all senior citizens, they have their own restrictions on diet, I'm sure most of the food is low on sodium, and I think that has a lot to do with it; they constantly seem to be trying to change it. They get different chefs that come in and, once a month, they have a family dinner where you come, they cook for you, you get to taste it, and as to that, what I've had has been really good. The dining area is small, but they have several different rooms. It is a small place, so it doesn't have a big dining room. Actually, I was afraid my dad wouldn't eat there because he never liked to do it at the other place he was at, but he is not having any issues with that. It is just a couple different rooms with different tables because it's a small place.
