She recently had heart surgery, and when she was released from the skilled nursing side of ManoCare Health they told us about the assisted living. The staff has been wonderful. We were very pleased with the nursing staff, and the attendants were very friendly and caring. We dropped in often for a visit to make sure everything was going OK, and she has actually has done very well. The rooms are very clean. They don’t provide furniture normally, but they actually got approval to pull our bed from the skilled nursing site to loan to us until she was able to get in and out of a regular bed, so they have been very accommodating. Sometimes the food looks better than other days, but that can be anywhere you go nowadays. I think they’re very good about making sure all the residents go to eat; they go to the rooms and get them. They have done a wonderful job. It actually kind of looks like a hotel dining room -- it’s very nice, they have tablecloths on the table, there is a fireplace there, and they probably have 15 or 20 tables. My mom is very much an introvert and sticks to herself, so they purposely put her with two residents that talk a lot to try to talk to her and interact with her, so they’ve put a lot of thought into what they’re doing and so far we’ve been pleased. They have had events where they bring in pets for the elderly, pets from shelters, they’ve have had craft class. They have church services from several other churches. They actually have people that go around on certain days of the month, and for the women they paint their fingernails and toenails. And I know they do have some other activities that I do, but she has only been there a week, and even when she was on the skilled nursing side they went and got her and brought her for the activities. They can improve maybe on the food, as the food sometimes looks really good and sometimes it isn’t.

Heartland was a really nice facility. Everything was updated. It’s very clean. For the skilled nursing section, they have really nice updates. There were many activities, but I can’t really remember them all. The rooms were average -- very spacious, really nice, and clean as well.
