My parent was in their Covid Quarintine unit. It's a holding tank. Uncaring, inattentive employees for the most part. They went in on meds for pneumonia, yet my parent in bed the whole 5 days, never helped them to their wheelchair, even though the PA ordered them to. Left wet for long periods and was only given one shower when they first checked in. Total disconnect in communication between staff and workers. I asked repeatedly to talk to the physician and NEVER heard from them. There are better places. Stay away.

I was sent to this place to recup after an operation. I was shown to a room that had an air mattress for the bed. The wall paper was peeling off the walls. A man who said he was a nurse came in and started going through my things and took my meds away. I was given a few personal items like a brush, deodorant, etc. and left alone. There were no instructions, tour, rules explained or anything. No one talked to me or offered to help me in any way. They have one bathing room for all the patients. I felt like I was in a horror movie['one flew over the cuckoos nest' came to mind]. I decided that this place was not where I wanted to be and asked to go home. At first, they said no, but I know my rights and finally left.

My aunt is at Retirement and Nursing Center Austin and she liked it. The ceilings are low and it seemed a little dreary, but she seemed to be adjusting to it and is happier than her previous living situation. The staff is really nice. They have library area, outings that they can sign up to go on, and other different things for their residents.

When my grandmother's health got to the point that she couldn't continue to live with me and my husband safely, my mom and I spent a couple days frantically searching Austin for a place that would accept Medicare and Medicade, and that we thought she would be happy. After touring numerous facilities, we settled on this one for numerous reasons. The facility was a bit older, but incredibly clean. The staff was not only incredibly friendly but knew all of the residents by name, and even knew a bit of their history. They really CARE about their patients, which is a big thing to me!!

The staff there were always incredibly nice, always seemed cheerful when talking to myself and my grandmother. My grandmother would always tell me about her day and what her and her new "friends" would do.

The staff at the facility were caring and respectful despite the varied needs of the residents. I know that my grandfather's medical conditions require a significant amount of supervision, but they handled it effectively. They were responsive to questions about all aspects of care provided, and were easily accessible by telephone. The facilities themselves do seem a bit old - cracks along the walls or places where there might have been water damage or stains have simply been painted over. What would be nice is if there was some sort of garden somewhere, but then I only visited it during the winter and didn't fully explore the facility. The residents themselves seem like a content bunch. There is a lot of cultural diversity here judging from the staff, activities on their bulletin board, and patients. My grandfather was satisfied by his experience there, and I would recommend the facility to others.

Retirement and Nursing Center is located in an older part of Austin, Texas, a commercial area near Burnet Road. We visited this facility many times while my grandfather was there in 2008. The staff seemed genuinely interested in the well being of their patients, but were unable to provide high quality care. The facility was old and the hallways were dark with few windows and inadequate lighting. There were also few activities for the residents to occupy their time. The television in the residents' rooms were old and only had over the air antennas; there was no cable television. Often times we would see residents with mental handicaps roaming the halls under little supervision.The food served seemed fine, but it was apparently not very palatable. It was a chore getting my grandfather to eat it. Many of the workers did not speak English well and thus it was often hard to communicate with them; their primary language being Spanish.Retirement and Nursing had a physical therapy room and doctors made frequent visits. We transferred my grandfather to another facility after a few months
