Shannondale Knoxville was a nice place but it was way too expensive for us. We were kind of in a vestibule area, everything was kind of on lockdown at the time. From where I came in, it looked very clean and very modern. I was greeted nicely. I didn't have an appointment so that kind of caught them off guard, but I was greeted by very friendly staff and we just sort of discussed things. I just happened to be in the area and it looked nice from the outside, that's why I pulled in. And they have available spots. They were super friendly and very accommodating to me, considering I just showed up. They are very nice and volunteered the information that they did. As far as the visual appeal and everything that I saw, the place was very friendly and inviting, and then the staff was the same way -- they were very nice, very accommodating.

The residents generally do not like the food, but my concerns run deeper. I am close to a resident who has fallen at least a few times in the past year. One time she laid on the floor for three hours before someone heard her cry and came to help. One time she was being walked by staff, fell hitting her head and breaking a bone. X-ray wasn't done for HOURS and the xray wasn't seen for hours longer. Finally ended up in the ER the next day. (This injury required surgery.) Last time she fell, they reported a 'minor' injury when she had evidence of facial trauma and needed to be seen, but again it was dismissed and nothing done for 24h (after the PA finally saw her). This last time the night shift supervisor was to make the call on how to handle it, and whoever made the call, the PA and the ER doc both indicated they didn't make the right call. We were blessed again, because she's alright, but the care is disappointing. And perhaps this is not unusual, but their often short-staffed.

My mother-in-law is currently in the independent care section and is well pleased. As you enter the building you note how clean, attractive and fresh the hallways are. The apartments are quite nice and again are clean and would be classified as warm. The bathtub is a bit dated but overall the apartment is a great deal nicer than most apartments for the general public. The ladies were exceptionally warm and welcoming which greatly eased the transition. The staff seem to be caring and professional. Although my mother-in-law complains sometimes about the food, the presentation is clean and attractive. Apparently the cooking staff had a change in the primary cook and the quality declined a bit. Overall the facility greatly exceeded my expectations and I plan to use this healthcare unit if there is availability and the quality remains high. At the current time I would highly recommend Shannondale.of Knoxville.

When I first walked in, I was greeted at the door by a smiling face who directed me to the elevators. I noticed that the lobby was very warm and inviting. As I stepped off the elevator I noticed the hustle and bustle that was going on. I asked a nurse what was going on, she said, "We're going to play bingo." I chuckled to myself saying, "I know Uncle Bill would be right in the middle of this." That's where I found him. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The nurses are very friendly and willing to talk to you in private if needed. They cater to the needs of the patient and for that I am very grateful.

My grandmother lived at Shannondale for the last three years of her life, and it was a mediocre place to live at best. The whole entire feel was ugly and depressing. She NEVER ever left her room because it smelled weird everywhere. I feel like just because it is a place where old sick people stay doesn't mean it should smell bad! And plus most of the staff was pretty uneducated and not very nice to her. She got 50 percent of her nice things stolen :(. Oh... and the food , DISGUSTING.. if these people are dying why serve them the most unhealthy, unappealing, and just plain not good foods! She lost probably thirty pounds because she could not force her self to eat this food. Ok.. Shannondale wasnt all bad i mean they had activities (bingo) HA. and church and stuff but i really feel like they could have done a whole lot better!

My mom lived in the retirement apartments in west Knoxville and is now in the Assisted Living. I always feel guilty that I don't let her live with me. When I comment, HER comment is that she is very happy where she is and not to worry. Everybody is very nice and she likes where she is. That gives me a lot of peace.
