I'm a little disappointed with the Barton House. We thought this community was good for my friend because it was a memory care facility and it has a walking trail. It is clean and attractive; however, there are no locks on the doors so other patients can walk in at any time. There is very little privacy. The only medical person is a nurse practitioner who comes once per week, but a medical doctor does not visit at all. The living quarter is just basic. There is nothing special , but nothing shabby either. My friend has a small refrigerator which is convenient.

My wife has Alzheimer's and she goes to The Barton House. What they do is memory care assisted living, but it's like a nursing home for Alzheimer's. This is the second month and I take her one day a week. She has probably gone six times now. It's absolutely excellent. They sing as a group, they have somebody come in once in a while, and they play ball with balloons. She is very content there. It's clean, there is plenty of room to move around, and everything is locked. There's an area outside that's fenced and locked. The staff is just excellent. They have a room if she wants to lay down. The staff is friendly, the food is good, and the hours are flexible. They would take you full time if you wanted to do that. I'm extremely pleased.

My father-in-law was at Barton House for almost 2 years. There were many activities for residents, music of various genres was played, there were 5 meals/snacks daily, and monthly family dinners, often with entertainment. So much more pleasant than any nursing home.

I visited the Barton House in August of 2011 with one of my girlfriends. My friend had a relative that was living in this facility at the time, and the relative has since passed away. It was a sad experience visiting a nursing home, but it was also an eye-opening experience as well. I did notice that there was a strong smell after I had been in the building for a few minutes. The smell was the strongest near the living quarters of the residents. I did not seem to notice the smell in the cafeteria or activities area. The cafeteria and activities areas were clean and bright, and the meal that I saw looked decent. Watching the some of the seniors during meal time was a bit sad, because most of them fully depended on help to eat. I am glad that they had a hard working staff available to help their residents feel comfortable, respected, and well-care for.
