NHC Dickson is very large. It fits our needs very well in that it will go from assisted living all the way to memory care when you need special nursing, so it’s a nice feature not to have to move my husband when that became necessary. I didn’t like the building as much. It was very clean, but it looked older. They have hospital beds, and it’s very institutional looking, but they do have Medicaid beds. I like best that they have every level of memory issues taken care of. Every question we had, the staff was very knowledgeable, and she gave us the answers we needed to hear. I’m really considering it very much.

We've already found a place for my mom. We had to put her in NHC Healthcare. Everybody is just super nice, the facility is very clean, and we couldn't ask for a better place. They do Bingo, church, and exercise programs. Other people come in and do special activities for them, so there are some other things. I have eaten actually in the dining area myself, and it is very nice. I like most that they give their patients' choices, like they get to choose their own meals for the day. They are not limited to one meal, but they have a selection that they can choose from. If they don't like what is offered, there are alternatives. They can order a certain meal if they don't like what is provided, and there is no extra charge for that.

NHC, Dickson, TN is a fairly good nursing and assisted living facility. My 93-year-old mother rehabilitated at this facility after sustaining a broken hip and subsequent surgery in 2006. Although my mom was elderly, her mind was very sharply aware of her surroundings and the activity around her. PROS: Staff is mostly caring and responsive although personal time and care is mostly limited to those who are easier to deal with. They are very user friendly for the family and seek to respond to questions and concerns quickly. CONS: While staff is competent there were times that my mom had to refuse to take meds that were not prescribed for her (she was very aware of what she was prescribed) until the charge nurse was involved and verified her prescribed medications. As with any facility family must be very involved daily to insure proper care.
