My tour at Brookdale Columbia was fine and the people were very pleasant. It's just too far away from my house. The apartment I was shown was also nice. And the staff that I've interacted with was very pleasant and helpful.

If ever my father has to go to assisted living, Brookdale Columbia is at the top of the list. We like it, he likes it, and everything about it (at least that we saw) was good. People that we know who have been there speak fondly about it. It's not the newest and most modern community, but everything else is good. We would put our father there. There was a group doing something, they have an activity room, and they have several different activities. None of those were going on at the time we were there, but the director gave us an idea of the schedule for the things they do as a community. It's of course optional to the individual, but it's there if they want. We saw them preparing for their noon meal and we saw some of the residents in the dining room. Everybody else was doing their job. The only staff we did anything with was the girl that was giving us the tour; she was a marketing manager. The rooms that we saw were individual rooms, and everything was fine.

I visited Brookdale Columbia. It was fine and had nice rooms. Of course, it would be less space than I have now. They did have a dining room and an activity room, so it wouldn’t be like you’re stuck in the room or the apartment. The facility itself felt friendly and congenial. Everybody was helpful and very nice.

I found Brookdale Columbia to be more expensive than the other place I visited. Their apartment sizes were small for the price. I wasn’t as pleased with the overall atmosphere, and it was not spacious. It was clean but not as clean as what I would have liked it to be. It really reminded me more of a nursing home.

Sterling House was very nice. I would try it. I would put a loved one there for sure. I watched some of the patients, and they seemed very satisfied, very happy, and that would be my first concern.

I visited Sterling House for my mother-in-law. It smelled clean. When you walk in, you don't smell something like Pine-Sol. The staff was good. They take very good care of their patients. I just didn't like the feeling when I walked in the front door. However, they were doing things to improve the place like getting in new furnishing in the common areas, new paintings, changing the floorings, etc.

I was there visiting my grandfather on May 18,2012. The meal was horrible, the protein was raw and the vegetables was over cooked. It was nothing like they had been bragging about or I had read about. The exterior was old and molded and the interior was the same. I can see how
my grandfather had lost so much weight and stayed sick.
If I had my way he would be removed right away and I would demand a refund.

The first thing that I noticed when I went to this facility was the security box on the doors. It is nice to know that the facility cares enough about the residents to keep a security box on the doors.
The next thing that I noticed was there was not an "odor". Some facilities have an odor that will take your breath away as soon as you walk in and this one did not.
It was lunch time when I visited the facility and I was able to see a sample of the meal that was served. The meal far exceeded my expectations. I was also happy to see that there is an alternate meal available for those residents that did not want the main meal.
The staff were all nice and very professional, but not to the point that it made me feel uncomfortable. The facility was nicely decorated and seemed very clean.
The residents themselves seemed happy, clean and well cared for. I did not witness anything that would indicate otherwise. The encounters between the staff and residents were nice. I did see genuine smiles on the faces of the staff when they interacted with the residents of the facility.
Based on my observations this facility is one worth looking into if you are looking to place a loved one in a facility.
