We toured Cypress Place. One thing I didn't like was that the company that runs this place, runs their fee on an availability scale. So if they were at full capacity, you pay a lot more to get in, and if they had some openings or if they were at low capacity, you pay a lower rate. I think that's a little unfair for people trying to get in. The staff who gave me the tour was good but she was kind of pushy. She's the one that convinced me to not go to the other place and come to them instead, and I didn't realize they were sister facilities at the time. But they're just older and they have carpet everywhere and the carpet is stained, and the walls haven't been painted, and they've cut down some trees in the courtyard and not replaced them. So it's just old and falling in ill repair. We saw a bunch of residents waiting to go eat lunch and their heads were hanging down in their laps. It didn't look inviting. I felt like these poor people were just rolled out there from their rooms. But they were at full capacity as well, so their rate was higher than the other community I toured. And they're a 30-year-old facility.

I visited Cypress Place. We didn't dislike it at all. It was a lot bigger than the other place we toured. It's literally on the other side of the hospital. The staff was nice. They helped us out.
The only thing was that we had to wait a while for someone to get to us. We waited for about 30 minutes before we were able to talk to someone. The staff we talked to was very nice. We had the nurse give us the tour. Unlike at the other place, we had the person that runs the place give us the tour.
It was so big. When we went to look at the rooms, it felt like we walked forever. It was away from the center space and was just down the wing. They had a nurse on duty 24/7, while the other place didn't have a nurse for 24 hours; that was the upside.
They also had a bigger courtyard. It looked like it was heavily used. You can see where the paint was worn and other little things. Even the rooms themselves were a little beat up.
Aside from being located right next to a big hospital, there are actually like three or four doctor offices across the street. There was also one of those places that checks your blood. Restaurants and everything are available right there or a block from there.

I visited Cypress Place. Their coffee was excellent. They are hiring the right people for the right places. The chefs go between each facility. So, if one is out for a week or whatever, they swap back and forth. Being a retired military member consistency is a big thing and they had that. They are in Dorchester County. It was a little higher priced because it's in that county. It is off of the main road, and you're right next to a hospital. It's in a big giant square, and they have a giant courtyard in the center. It has flowers, trees, and the whole nine yards. That's the only place where they can go that's away from the traffic.

Cypress Place was an excellent place. The people were super friendly. It has everything there that we were looking for. Everything's kind of in the air at this minute, but it was a very nice facility. I liked it. I love the people. The staff has followed up with me a couple of times. They were super informative and super people. They told me they would send somebody out to visit with my mother a little bit to judge what level they thought she was going to need.
The dining area was very nice. We didn't get to actually sample the food because it was in the afternoon, and it wasn't dinnertime yet.
The rooms were very nice and spacious. It was a nice place. They had super attitudes all the way around. Everybody seemed to be in good spirits there.
They had a game room and a TV room. They take them out for visits to places around town, as long as they're able to do that. I believe they have people come in and entertain them. The person during the tour was outstanding. I would be comfortable if my mom was there.

We went over to Cypress Place. The only reason why we did not pick this one was because they did not have a room available. The location is better for us personally because it is here in Summerville, where I live. The room is identical to what we chose over at the other facility. The staff was friendly, very warm and welcoming. They have a library and a courtyard. It is spacious and well laid out. It is also a small community.

Cypress Place was very bright, cheerful, and they do a lot of activities there. They also have transportation and a lot of nice programs for their residents. They had a very nice kitchen. The rooms were large and they've got very open hallways. Their activities director does an awful lot to keep their folks engaged. There was so much enthusiasm from the residents there. They are very concerned about what their residents do and how they stay active.

My visit was fantastic. Everything was nice. The people were really trying to please my husband, he joked around, and he enjoyed the people there. He didn't find any fault with it; he just doesn't want to do it. They invited us to a social event, and they had picnic food that day. They had it all prearranged. They always have entertainment maybe once a week. I just sat in the back, and I witnessed them being entertaining and really nice with the patrons. It seemed to me like it wasn't phony. I actually went in a room, there was a woman in there who was doing her knitting, and she didn't mind us coming in and talking. It seemed like everybody was friendly -- the patrons, the workers, the employees -- it just looked like everyone was happy. They even allow pets, and someone had a dog. They had also this gentleman who was into gardening, and he had done herbs and vegetables for the place. It wasn't overly large, but what grounds that they had, it's a very smart thing to let people plant things if they're into that. We liked Cypress House because it's close to my house, I could bring in his medication, and they would give it to him.

The staff who assisted us at Cypress House was Carol, and she was very good. My dad has a one room studio, and you have to bring your own furniture so it is what you make it, but it is very nice, and it has a small kitchenette. The food is very good, but my father is 91 so he doesn't eat a whole lot. It is a very nice place, the kitchen is good, and the dining room is nice; the whole thing is very nice. They have games and exercise classes, bingo, and all kinds of things like that. I was most impressed with the staff and their dining room.

My wife liked Cypress Place, so that’s the one we put my mother-in-law in. To me, it’s just a real nice place. It’s very comfortable. They seem to care for her. They seem like genuine, caring people. It’s a little apartment, like a 1-room apartment with her own bath. It’s large enough for her and very accommodating for her. They have church on Sunday. They have things throughout the week like bingo and sing-alongs. I’m very impressed with them. She’s happy there. She’s made friends, and she has a lot more to do than she did when she was with us.

It is a nice facility, and the rooms are very nice. The staff was very nice also. My husband had a bad experience, though. He was very unhappy and was trying to escape the whole time he was there. They were just not capable of taking care of an Alzheimer’s patient.
