Helena Place was a very cozy, friendly, and comfortable facility. The staff was very informative. He gave me a very thorough tour of the facility. I found it also to be very clean there. The few clients that I happened to see in the lobby area seemed very happy with the facility also. The dining area was very clean. It seems like a very nice social place also. They have an activities director. They have various craft classes, bingo, a social hour, exercise classes, and they have somebody that does gardening. There's a variety of things that they offer.

Helena Place in Port Royal was a pretty good assisted living facility. There are no levels and the price is reasonable. It was getting remodeled when we were there, it's big on activities and food, and has its own chef.

My mother is at Helena Place, and they take very good care of her. They identified the battery for her pacemaker needed to be replaced, that's life threatening, and that got taken care of.
The director is Lorie Kesler and Veronica Carstens is the medical leader. It's a small facility and they are very touch with their clients. I get regular updates from the director, and I have weekly communications and email correspondence with the the medical director and the person who actually takes care of my mother five days a week. We have conversations about what my mother needs so I can order things for. They take her to the doctors. The place is just fantastic. I've been there twice.
I've been to several of these facilities, and the bigger the room, the more it costs. My mother's an L-shaped room and she has a queen size bed. She has a 70-inch TV but that was her TV. And because she's in assisted living, she doesn't have a full kitchen. She has a fridge. She is 91, so they keep things because they didn't want her to hurt herself. I think, on a ballpark, let's say three hundred and fifty square feet. It has a big bathroom and a walk-in shower, and she actually can use a wheelchair or a walker to get into the shower.
They have good life enrichment programs there. Somebody called me this weekend and said there was a gentleman from Mississippi there, played the electric piano, sang songs from her youth, like the big band era. They had that every once in a while. They play bingo, and they watch movies together. I think they're doing a pretty good job.
I haven't eaten and one day my mother will say the food was bad, the next day she would say, it's awesome. Any day they have shrimp it is awesome. If they had ice cream for dessert, that's awesome.
All of those places assisted living are expensive. She is a level six and it's like over $6000 a month. But I have no regrets about my mother being there.

It had a very friendly and nice atmosphere. They had a nicely kept garden where the people could sit outside. However, it was too expensive, and they were not flexible, so that was a turnoff. All in all, I would recommend them.

We had lived here, and it was delightful. The staff and management were wonderful. The activities were involving and pleasant. The food was OK. It was just small. I think we were only 35 residents. They had religious services and bingo. The apartments had a kitchenette and a living area. It had a homelike atmosphere.

Helena House is by far the best provider of assisted living services in Beaufort. Mom has lived there nearly 2 years and the management & staff have addressed all/every request I've made. Mom really likes it there and there is always a warm, inviting feeling when we walk in the front door. The place is surprisingly clean. I couldn't be more pleased.

My father lived in here for about nine months and he liked it there, but he wanted to move back to New Jersey so he could be with family. He had a small apartment and was very independent. They provided his every meal and did everything for him. The staff seemed very nice. The only thing was that my dad was bored because he's very active and they didn't have a lot of activities there.
