As far as the Oaks at Chanticleer is concerned, it is one of the best places my husband has been. It's bright, cheery, and not gloomy. He's just now beginning to come out of his room but I would say everybody has been really helpful to him. I appreciate everything that they've done to help us out.
The hospital is right in front of it and that was one of the things that I considered when deciding to place him there, that it's local and close to medical stuff.
For food, I guess they do the best they can and they're trying to make a balanced meal. They could do with a little bit of improvement though.
My husband is on the assisted living side. He's been there since May. As far as the value of what you get for your money, I would say it's in line with everybody else. They also give a VA break or a discount if you're a veteran.
I'm not seeing that much activity but they try. These patients are just not capable. There are dementia patients there so that's very, very difficult but I'll give them an A for effort.

I toured the Oaks at Chanticleer. I was not impressed with the place, it had the smell of a retirement home. I talked to the person, and after I left, I had already ruled them out. The staff appeared to be very knowledgeable and they were trying to be helpful, but it did not feel like the place that I wanted to put dad in. The rooms were all semi-private, and they hadn't been remodeled in a while. I think that place had like two dining rooms, so they were small to middle-sized. They had salons and they had like an ice cream soda shop, and they had popcorn and other things, kind of like a bistro. It's an old facility. It has not been remodeled in a while.
