We went to tour the English Meadows Lexington Campus. It was beautiful. It was very, very nice. The only reason we didn't choose that was, the cost was a little higher and it was farther away from me. We only met the girl that took us on the tour, and she was wonderful. They had a salon and an activities director. It was convenient to a hospital, shopping malls, and restaurants.

When you walk in English Meadows Lexington Campus, the appearance is lovely. However, the rooms were incredibly small. They didn't have raised toilets there. They had standard toilets for the elderly, which blew my mind. They had shared bathrooms. Even for respite care, it would not probably work for my mother. The facility was beautiful. It's seriously pretty, new, sparkly, and shiny. The room was so small that we could not have even gotten my mother's dresser, little twin sized bed, and her chair in it.
The staff was very kind, very professional, and very polished as far as the words they used, but the tour left a little bit of questions. They told us about the common areas, but they did not show us the common areas (nor did they offer to show us any of the common areas). We saw the cafeteria, and we obviously saw the entrance area. The room would not have worked at all for my mother because of the standard toilets, and they couldn't offer any fixes for that necessarily.
The nurse was lovely. I love the nurse. When we toured throughout the facility, we saw very few staff. Getting in and out of there is treacherous. Where it is positioned on the road is a dangerous situation. The traffic getting in and out was a nightmare when we came out of there at 4:30. My mother likes specific things when it comes to her food, and they were not readily excited about providing those.

English Meadows Lexington Campus was very nice and very clean. They had a good activity director up there. The atmosphere was nice. It would be someplace I could live. The staff seemed very courteous and very professional and really on top of what they were doing. I looked at their menu, but I didn't try their food. The dining area was very clean. I would go in there and sit down and eat. It looked nice. The activity director said they have all kinds of games, board games, outings, and things like that. Upkeep and cleanliness were excellent. It costs more, but I can kind of see why because they seemed to be more staffed and all the staff that worked there was introduced to me if we passed by them. They're real professionals. It seemed like you get what you pay for.

Carolina Gardens at Lexington seemed quiet and clean. We went on a weekend, and the staff on duty was very nice. The rooms were almost identical to other places that I have looked at. They're a little small, but they're good enough for the purpose. My sister doesn't need a lot of room, but it'll be OK. They were not even expecting us to show up for the visit. Nobody informed the marketing manager. Graciously, the lady on duty took us in and went impromptu and did the tour as best she could, but no meal was offered.
From what they told me, there were several different activities that they do, but I don't remember at the moment what they were. The main thing that we selected Carolina Gardens was probably because my sister has a relative that is living there, so she was familiar. She had never been there to visit her relative, but she was very happy with the situation. She said the meals were adequate, some of them were good, some of them not so good. The place was clean and they respond quickly when she needs help. The facility has been lived in for a while.

I have relative there and food is not good - especially breakfast bread that is so hard she cannot eat it. She is not one to complain, even tho I have told her to do so. Apparently all meals should be improved.

I went to see it, and it was nice, but it was only two stories. We saw a room, and it was nice and big. I don’t like the fact that they have people smoking inside the place. Their dining room was really nice.

It is a brand new facility. Everything is new and modern. The only problem is that they only have four units with two bedrooms. Most of the residents have to go into a single bedroom, and that made it unsuitable for me and my wife.

It was clean. The staff was great and was very friendly. We liked the layout. That's the one that my mom chose because it had a larger 1-bedroom unit that was open and available at the time. The dining area is spacious. It has a buffet setup, although they'll serve you at the table if you want. It's very clean, but the food is mediocre. It's not great. The activities are very good, and they have lots of activities that are appropriate and interesting. They have something going on every day.
