Briarcliffe Gardens Memory Care Assisted Living was a close second in the four places I went to. It does not have a campus, but their assisted living building is only four months old. The building itself is wonderful. It's comparably priced. They have first floors with the doors leading outside, the door to go in and out of their aspect is different. Dining is where you find somebody that you like to sit with, and you sit with that person. I think that would be better for my brother because he would sit with a couple of people that are professors down there, he's highly educated, even though his mind is now going short-term. It would be better for him to choose instead of him being assigned a place to sit. You can have a dog on a leash over there in the back, to relieve itself outside, which is perfect for my brother. I was disappointed in the library, but that might be because the facility is new. I don't remember seeing a lot of amenities, but their grounds are large with many buildings, so each level of care, memory care, nursing, are all in separate buildings. You can walk from one to the other. I didn't find the sales staff readily able to help. It's definitely well-maintained.

My mother's room is bright and cheerful. The staff keep it very clean. My interactions with the staff have been very good. They answer questions and keep me informed regarding her activity and condition. I receive regular calls from the nursing staff regarding medical evaluations. The staff interactions with my mother are upbeat and respectful. There are regular musical events that my mother really enjoys.

My wife has advanced Alzheimer's, and Briarcliffe Gardens is dedicated specifically to Alzheimer's. They were not just an assisted living with all kinds of different things. Everyone there is trained specifically to handle their Alzheimer's residents. The owner took me around for an hour and a half, and explained why everything was done the way it was done in this facility: why the carpet pattern was the way it was, why the colors were the way they were, why the rooms were set up the way they were, and he convinced me. He was also competitive. And there are little things. There is natural light in the central building, there are skylights with natural light, and the kitchen is directly next to the dining area, so when they bring the residents over to the table for dinner, they could smell it cooking, and it is like being at home. There were lots of little things that really made a big difference to me in the way that he explained it. The staff has been phenomenal. The first couple of weeks my wife was there, one of the nurses sent me an email with a picture of my wife on the exercise like they have been able to get her on it. That's the kind of care from the RNs to the nursing aides to the housekeeping staff to the kitchen staff, and every single one of them, when they pass her in the hallway or wherever, they greet her or put a hand on her shoulder. I couldn't ask for better care for my wife. Briarcliffe is just so far and above any of the others.
