As a caretaker for various relatives for over 20 years we are keenly aware of probably 5 local
assisted living facilities.
Without question Hawthorne Woods is the best offering. Great room designs, good
food and caring staff.
Our sister has been there over 4 years and is
still going strong at 89. Moving her from Florida we were lucky to have her become a resident so fast. Her health improved within
a month.
Great Job!

We chose Hawthorne Woods because my mother's doctor is affiliated with Washington Hospital, which makes house calls to the center. That way, she wouldn't have to leave for a doctor's appointment and can keep her doctor whom she's had for 50 years. The size of the rooms was impressive, and the size of the kitchen in the units was nice. The two things that caught my eye that interest my mom most were bingo and breadmaking. She is a baker, so it really caught her eye. Cathy is the person we've been dealing with, and she's been outstanding.

We choose Hawthorne Woods for my father-in-law because it is close to us and it is the nicest among the facilities that are nearby. The staff's attitude is very good and positive. We are able to visit multiple rooms and they are very nice. I also like that it has a huge enclosed courtyard where my dad can walk around. They also have an extremely high amount of activities for the residents. I will recommend them to others.

At first glance all seems well, however durning my mother's short stay at Hawthorne woods I witnessed some very disturbing things. Management yelled at a staff member in front of my self and other residents. Then I witnessed a very fragile woman being grabbed by the arm and shoved by staff. The woman began to cry and was told to "straighten up, no one wants to hear that." That was all it took for me. I pulled my mother out. I feel so bad for the other residents. So sad. If you are considering this facility please please do your homework first. Things are not always as they seem.

The facility I observed when I visited Hawthorne Woods in Washington, Pennsylvania, was quite frankly very good. The assistants were wonderful, and obviously took exquisitely good care of all of their patients. Technically classified as and "Adult Day Care," the facility supplied patients with all the the basic amenities which they needed to live their daily lives to the fullest. Patients received such items as good food and drink, help with tasks like grooming and hygiene, and assistance with transportation to and from religious events. The dedication of the staff and the overall happiness of the elderly really struck me as something incredibly special.
