Willowbrook Place was nice but it didn't have a nice entry and it was near a lot of industrial buildings across the street. It was in a nice location, but it was not in a wooded setting. The room size was a 4-star because it only provided a tiny wardrobe and no closet. I don't think my mother could go in a room like that. Only 28 out of the 56 units were occupied, which was a bit of a turn-off. We saw a full schedule of activities, and we saw residents doing some activities. It looked like they had adequate staffing. The dining rooms didn't have tablecloths. They were more cafeteria- style, and it wasn't as cozy. But the menu looked good, and the tour was done exceptionally well.

If I had to choose between one of the four facilities I toured, I would choose Willowbrook Place as number one. The facility was very well-kept and looked like they put a lot more into it in all aspects. They have gardens outside, and you're able to sit outside. It's just in a very nice location also that I think it adds to the ambiance in it. Even the decor was well done. It was just a little bit more upscale, aesthetically pleasing, and extremely clean.
The staff was very accommodating. They were all surprised that I came, but they all graciously accepted me immediately, toured me around, and explained everything to me. I was able to even interact with some of the residents, and so it was just very, very enjoyable. Just looking at the residents, they were well cared for, happy and active. They had a lot of things for them to do. It was just very nice.
I was very satisfied with the dining room and the kitchen area. They showed me the menus, and there were options available. The menus looked very healthy, and they had nice options if people did not want the main meal.

I toured Willowbrook Place, and the staff seem to be very receptive and very caring. The only real problem I had with that place was the rooms were very, very small. There were no closets or anything for possessions at all. They care about their residents, but it just felt like a shoebox for the rooms.
It also looked old; they needed to make it look more like a home than a hospital or nursing home, with all those white walls. It was just drab, but they had decent amenities and things to do, and that was fine. I know they were trying to get people out of their rooms.

Willowbrook Place is a perfect place if I was going to send anybody. I had many friends there over the years. My friend was there for two years. It's clean. The people are very personable, and the help is great. The nurses are great. It seems like everybody that I know that's ever been there is very satisfied. I've never heard of any of them say they had a problem there.
When my friend was there, they gave us a room so we could have a birthday party and everything for her. We had things for us there. They had really great things. There was always a band coming or a party coming that we would meet there and have a good time. It was a great place. Everything was good. It was the best place I've seen. My friend took time taking care of the bird feeders, and even after she passed away her daughter took care of the bird feeders. There's a very large space down below for people to go and sit.
The staff was very personable to everybody and very kind. They will do anything for you. The facility itself was very adequate.

The Willowbrook was a very nice facility. It had a nice, homey feeling to it, it was clean. I think the rooms were spacious. The staff all seemed very nice. They seemed to be caring enough. I did see the dining room, they served at the tables. I was in the activity room and talked to a few of the residents. I didn't take notice of what activities they were doing but they seemed to be having a nice time. They do have a physical therapy room. The residents all seemed happy.

Overall, I felt that the facility met the basic needs of the residents very well, and that the staff did its very best to take care of the residents. There were interesting meals that the residents seemed to enjoy, and planned activities throughout the day to keep residents interested in activities at the facility. Having said that, there were also some things at the facility that could be improved. Many of the workers at the facility seemed to have very little training in the specific needs of the elderly, and some of the meals seemed very bland (although I realize that many of the elderly residents are not particularly fond of spicy foods). In addition, there seemed to be a limited number of evening activities for residents; there were 4-6 on the calendar for the entire month - 1-2 evening activities/week. Overall, the residents' needs were met very well; I guess that I would like to see more activities, almost as if they need an activities director at night as well as during the day.
