We went to Ashton Commons Senior Living. It was a wonderful experience. The community was the definition of a luxury assisted living center. Everyone was kind. It was very clean and updated. It's a newer facility. The director was extremely helpful. The residents that I saw during my tour seemed very happy and well cared for. They had a good staffing ratio. Their dining area looked very nice. I did not try the food, and it was not during mealtime when I was there. The facility itself, I believe, has only been open for eight or nine months. Everything looked like it was the first day it opened, very well maintained, and very clean.

My mom has moved into Ashton Commons Senior Living. It's fantastic, my mother is very happy, and they're very attentive. She likes the food. Right now, they're in lockdown because they had nine cases of COVID, so she's stuck in her apartment. The staff is wonderful. The apartment is almost brand new, it's beautiful, and well-maintained. You have somebody come in and clean it for her, and they change her sheets there. They're really great. Everybody's been super friendly and kind to her, unlike her last experience at another facility.
I've had a couple of lunches there with her, and it's good. They said they're getting a new chef. I don't know the reasons behind that, but my mother's been happy with the food. It's very nice. They offered dessert even for lunch. They have a menu posted on a big chalkboard for lunches and special stuff they have for the day. The dining area is very clean. There's the staff on the spot, they come almost immediately after you sit down to see what you want to eat. The food comes out quickly.
My mother likes the fact that there's a chapel there. As far as activities, she was in therapy, so she really hasn't gotten really involved in any activities. I have mentioned to her that they have an exercise class, and they have like pulleys that are attached to the chairs. I've seen people in there, they had somebody come in and they have everybody sitting in chairs. They're there almost immediately, they're very attentive.
Based on all of the other places that I went to, they're pretty much in line. They're all very expensive. Because she has needed some extra care, she's on a higher level than I'd like her to be now. I've asked them to reevaluate her because I don't think she needs to be at that level anymore. They said next week they will come in and reevaluate and see if they can drop down a level because that will drop down the money.

The kitchen and food are a mess. There isn’t any staff to take your order and deliver your meal. There isn’t a chef
the care aids and anyone who works here is involved with the kitchen and it takes for ever to get food and all your strength to not loss your temper. The facility is beautiful and has such great potential but is not managed properly.

Ashton Commons Senior Living has a bunch of independent buildings for people that are independent living. They have their own little buildings all around them, and then they have the main complex where they have assisted living. Then they have the memory care unit. The place is brand new. The memory care unit is not open yet, but we went through it. It's got huge halls. Everything's clean and bright because they're not going to open until the beginning of next month.
It's a really nice facility, and it's not far away, so, it's a good thing. The only negative about it is it's a little pricey. John gave us the tour, and he did a great job. We talked for a while, and he showed me around. You could take a while to get around all the places there are. He showed me the assisted living area and the memory care area, but the big thing is memory care has got a good lockdown. It's all on the first floor, so it makes it easy to get around. They have nursing stations and all kinds of activity places.
They did a pretty good job; they've got a pretty good-sized staff. They've got a very large dining room and kitchen area. They've got all kinds of activity areas, a TV room, an activities room where they have church services every other week on the weekends and stuff like that. They have places for puzzles, a crafts area, and they have a big court. it's a pretty nice place, clean, big, and it's got lots of stuff in it.
