I went to Atria McCandless. One thing that I thought was unique and very good about their facility is they don't draw a big distinction between independent living and assisted living. Too many places make the residents move when they have to switch and need more services. Atria McCandless will bring the services to the apartment and not make the residents change apartments if they happen to need services and progressed through that continuum of care. That was unique of places that I knowl of. That was also a good selling point for people who might be on the edge or know that they're going to be there within a year or two. The staff was able to meet me. She was excellent. She did an appropriate follow-up after the tour. They had a nice convenient casual pub, they had activity rooms, and I saw the salons. Those were the main things I looked for.

Atria McCandless is a beautiful facility with lots of different living options on floor plans. There would be enough for my father to do and there's a lot of activity that anyone would enjoy. They will have an Italian wine night and my sister-in-law and I even asked if we can come back for that. I thought the rooms were nice, and I thought there's plenty of room for one person. I was surprised at the size of the closet, it was a little bit on the small side. Other than that, I thought they were very nice and had plenty of room. The staff who gave the tour was great and the staff that we ran into was very nice. Some of the residents as well that we came across, were very friendly. There were three different options to get something to eat. Like if you wanted to get something from the dining room or from the cafe, which I thought was nice. The outdoors were nice as well, there's a lot of different seating areas and a little fire pit. On the other side of the pool, there are also other areas to sit if you want to sit outside. It's in a nice area, close to shopping and what have you.

Atria McCandless starts at independent living, and then it works up as you need more help, and into even memory care if you need that. I think it will meet all my needs. As you need more help, you get more help. What I liked most about it was the friendly people, and it was exactly what I wanted. It was in the neighborhood that I live in. I have a daughter five minutes away, so it will be handy that way. It's a brand-new facility, so it has lots of the latest innovations. It has a swimming pool for classes, an exercise room, a book club, and an arts room with classes. It covers just about everything. They have a huge movie theater. Anything you'd like, they seem to have. You can have food anytime of the day or night. It's gorgeous.
