My mom was in a terrible accident and needed a facility to recover at after leaving the hospital. I called to see if Harmer Village had beds available and was told they did. I therefore asked the hospital to submit a referral to Harmer Village. Suddenly they didn't have any beds available. Ironic that an establishment that sells itself on caring and compassion would turn away a patient that would require too much care and lose them money. Heartless.

Harmar Village seems to have caring workers. It’s clean and offers a wide range of services. There is rehab on-site, transportation available if needed, and a beauty shop that my aunt would enjoy.

My mother has been here almost a year. She is able to speak but does not walk. My sister and I pop in at different times night and day. My mother is always clean and dressed and her room is very clean. I never smell urine. The meals are amazing. Everyone has a large TV and other TVs are in social rooms. My family visited on Christmas and we sat in front of their lit fireplace next to a Christmas tree in one of the rooms available to us. The staff played Christmas music for us and were very friendly. My mom said it was one of her best holidays. The only complaint that I have would be storage. She has a small end table and a closet. We can't bring to many things from her home...but that is a small price to pay for their great care.

There are very little activities in this place, especially if you are on the third floor. They line everyone up at the nurses desk and let them sleep in their wheel chairs. There is no stimulus. Also, they don't change the residents very often so the third floor has a strong urine smell. The only good thing about this place is the therapy. Once you can no longer speak up for yourself, it is not a good place. Family has to be there all the time. I go every evening for my Mother so I can stay on top of things. I want to move her, but am afraid the change would not be good for her. When my Father was in this place 6 years ago, it was a better place.

The staff are friendly and cheerful, which is a very good thing for seniors at the facility. My grandmother had nothing but positive things to say about the staff. The facility is split into a few buildings including a small park, a comfortable dining room, a hair salon, and an exercise room. However, outside of the dining room the hallways resemble a hospital, with extremely harsh lighting and a strong antiseptic smell. The staff are all dressed in scrubs, which seems to make family members and residents a bit nervous. If the staff were to wear uniforms or casual clothes, it would make the environment feel much more safe and reassuring.

The staff left soiled rags everywhere, including the resident's bed. They didn't change soiled sheets.

My mother is receiving quality care as her health is declining with Alzeheimer's. She is comfortable and not in any pain and the staff takes great care in providing all the skilled nursing care that she needs. The staff provides updates on her care and always keeps us in the loop of what is going on.
