Dad went to McCullough Place for respite care two years ago. The facility was fantastic. The care given to my father during his stay was excellent. They were attentive to his needs. It was a one- bedroom with a private bathroom. My dad thought the food was delicious. I know they had daily activities, but I honestly don't remember what they were. I know that they had fitness activities. They had entertainers come in, card games, and board games.

McCullough Place was gorgeous. We've had several relatives in other homes in the Johnstown area, and this by far is the nicest place that I've ever been in. They have super wide hallways, and everything is decorated beautifully. I think they have 42 rooms, so it's not that large. As we were going through the facility, we were with the admissions director. We stopped and talked to the staff, whether it was a laundry person or a hairdresser or whoever that was. He introduced us to every one of those, which impressed me, because it seemed like a family type place. He took us to a studio apartment that was fairly big. It's about 450 square feet, which is a good size, with a really nice kitchen, a really nice private bath, and a living area. McCullough Place is the only one I found that had any vacancies actually. Then they had the crafts, weekly church services, a sing along, and an entertainer that comes in and plays the accordion and piano. They have a very good variety of socialization. It's built in a circle around a courtyard with a gazebo and plenty of picnic tables. They have a dining room that beats most restaurants. They have tablecloths that are decorated real nice with centerpieces. They have free transportation to doctor's offices and they take care of dispensing their medications. They had anything that you asked for. I was very pleased.

I found a place for my mother, but I have not yet moved her in, and we chose McCullough Place. It seemed clean, safe, and homey. The place was very clean. The staff was very courteous and knowledgeable. The people that we spoke with were very nice and knowledgeable. It's close by to where she lives.

McCullough Place was a very nice place. I was very impressed with it. It was very homey, spacious, and friendly, and I think they have a lot of activities there. They're also kind and caring workers. We saw the rooms, the dining area, and the activity area during the tour.

My mother-in-law is currently at McCullough Place, and our experience has not been good. It's a back and forth for the staff. They say one thing and do another. It's all screwed up. She is showing up almost $5,300 a month, and a place like that and with the money that you're spending, you still have to take your own bedding, pillowcases, and stuff up there. We also took a cushion up there because she's in a wheelchair, and she needs that to sit on because her bottom gets sore, but when my wife and I were up there twice, no cushion was put on the wheelchair. When we went there to visit, they told us, "OK, you can go back in the room," so we went back in the room and spent time with her, talked to her, and then we left. However, the next time we came in, we had to meet her in a meeting room. They put us in there, we were like ten feet away, we could take our masks off, sat, and talked to her. You're only allowed to be there for half an hour, but the lady forgot to set the timer on. There was another time when my wife had her mask off, and this lady came over and said, "You gotta put your mask on." It's like either you have to have it, or you don't have to have it. McCullough Place is all pretty on the outside and the inside. The facility is in nice shape, it's clean, and my mother said that the food is good, but they have her shoved back in the corner where nobody can see her in her room. Their service is lousy too. When we went in there to settle up one of the pieces of paperwork, because she came from a rehab place, they told us, "Oh, there's a $4,500 entry fee. It's non-refundable." So, we're taking her out of there soon.

I like McCullough Place. They have a courtyard that's like a garden in the middle of the place. I like the set up when it comes to that, but when it comes to price, they're way higher than other places. Nevertheless, I like it better when it comes to location. McCullough Place is one level. Their price varies based on how far your room is from the front. If you have to walk, it's really a long walk. They have nice rooms though. They also provide a refrigerator, a sink, and a microwave. The dining area is more of a restaurant layout. They have a menu, and they make their residents feel like they are eating in a restaurant because they have a menu that they can choose from. When we went in there the residents were highly recommending the place. It seems like they have really good activities, too.
