Maris Grove was great. I enjoyed the visit. I saw a choir, the movie theater, and the game room. The staff was lovely. The food was good.

Maris Grove is a very large community -- there are over a thousand residents here. Some of the problems we have is it’s too far to go to different parts of the facility. It’s just too big. Now, they are breaking grounds for two more buildings. The food is not very good. Usually, you wait for half an hour after you go down before you can be seated. Sometimes, it’s longer than that, if it’s a special occasion like Valentine’s Day. You have to wait an hour to be seated because everybody goes to eat. That’s really disappointing. They have a swimming pool, a fitness center, a medical center, a pharmacy, a little grocery store, a bank. It’s a beautiful facility, such that you could live inside here for the rest of your life without ever having to go out. It’s a gated community, and there are a lot of security guards. Our apartments have cords. If there’s something wrong, you just pull that cord, and in three minutes, the guards will be here to find out what happened.

I liked Maris Grove. The people there were very nice. The food was wonderful. The units were lovely. I had gone there several times. In fact, I would go back again tomorrow for something. The apartments depended on what you chose. They had a one bedroom or two bedrooms. They had a kitchen, a dining room, living room, and a bedroom or two bedrooms; if it's two bedrooms, they had two baths. They had a swimming pool. They would go on a lot of trips. They had all sorts of activities; you name it, they had it. They had a walking group. They also had a theater. Maris Grove was all connected. It was very large. In fact, it had two buildings.

Maris Grove wanted $300,000 to $400,000 cash down immediately. They were gorgeous, but I don't know who can afford to do that. Everything was great there. They had full apartments: bedrooms, bathrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, full kitchens.

I have been to Maris Grove several times. The first time I went there, a friend of mine went with me. Everything was very good. We had lunch there. They had a dining area where you could come down and dine, or you could have it brought to your room. Then I asked my husband to come with me to Maris Grove. When he did, the lady started talking to him and told him that we needed $450,000 to move in, and then we would pay almost $3,000 a month, and that would include one meal. My husband, being such a gentleman, just went along with it. Then he said, "How much does it include?" and she said "One meal," and he said "One meal for $3,000 a month?!" It was way too much, but they had a beautiful layout. They had a walk-in closet, linens in your bedroom, a bath in the hallway, and it was gorgeous. I saw some of the people there, and I said, "I know these people," only to find out they were the doctors' mothers and the lawyers' mothers and fathers. It's for the wealthy. They had a recreation room, a sauna, and a pool. They allowed pets.

It's a continuing care non-profit facility. It's close to where I live. The buy-end reverts to the state. The monthly fees are affordable, something they can afford with their pensions and social security, and you're not spending $6,000 for somewhere for them to live. It's something that they can manage right now. They're in their 80s, and it's something that they can afford to do. It also provides for all phases of their life. So if you go on right now, they're going into independent living, but they can get to an assisted living. There's nursing care, there's rehab facility, and there's an Alzheimer's care unit. My mother has Alzheimer's, so this is very important to me. The people that I met are very nice. I haven't met any of the nursing care people. I have yet to deal with them.
