We went to Friendship Village of South Hills. We viewed the facilities, the dining room, the apartments, the gym, the swimming pool, and sat down and talked about the services that were available. The staff was very helpful, they had a variety of rooms, they had a calendar of events daily, and they were many amenities. It's a very beautiful community, very modern, and clean.

Everything at Friendship Village was great. They have exercise room, movies, a library, and billiards. The dining room was beautiful, very cheerful, and big.

Friendship Village is a wonderful senior community in the South HIlls area of Pittsburgh. We considered several locations with my parents when deciding on a place, including facilities in other states. Friendship Village won hands down and we (and they) are very happy with our choice. They have an excellent dining room (we treat eating with my parents as an equivalent to a good restaurant night out!), nice facilities, excellent programs and services. The only small downside is their physical facility which is a little tired, however they are undergoing substantial renovations which will be complete in a year and should bring them up to the highest comparable facilities (other than no pool, not sure why they did not elect this). But the best thing about the place is the people. Their employees are wonderful, they always remember everyone's name and treat the residents with respect, in fact, it seems like, they treat them as they would their own family. I would highly recommend them.

After our grandfather was settled in, we visited the facility for a more in-depth tour. Starting with lunch in the dining room, we found the service to be outstanding, especially for guests of the residents. The food was well prepared and had a good variety - one worries that repeated meals may become tiresome for the residents. The grounds of the facility are beautiful. My grandfather chose a modest 2 bedroom apartment, that while small, adequately met his needs. While touring the facility, we noticed many activities available to the residents - trips, clubs, meetings, worship. My grandfather - not social by nature - has been devouring books in the library and completing projects with other like minded residents in the wood shop. I hope that the staff is reaching out to include him in activities he may not sign up for on his own.The residents of the facility seemed to be fairly friendly, but they did keep a close eye on the young ones in our party. Grandpa tells us that there are cliques formed along lines of interest among the residents - not surprising, but a new experience for someone who lived on his own with family for the last 60 years. There are medical rooms available, for stages in life where independent living isn't an option - this is a place where my grandfather will live out the rest of his days in comfort.

My experience with this place is always enjoyable, especially considering that I am not partial to places such as these. We go to dinner with our grandparents there sometimes and the staff has always been polite and quick to meet our needs. The food is actually quite delicious and seemingly high-end. The place is quite large overall and offers many things for the senior citizens to do. There is a library and a pool table and even a place to do arts and/or crafts. Their living spaces are small in my opinion, however, for an older couple it seems quite reasonable as they don't need much space to move around and rarely eat in their actual living spaces (the cafeteria is probably way better anyway). They even have their own little patios / balconies (depending on their level of the building) which i find quite suitable because they can keep planters out there. Overall, Friendship Village is a delightful establishment and I highly recommend it.
