Capital Manor is non-profit, so their buy in and monthly fees are a little bit lower. It's a very established place with a volunteer board of directors of prominent people in the community. I have a cousin who has lived there for a few years now who likes it there. It has all of the things that a person might want, like an exercise room, a nice pool, Jacuzzi, wood shop, wax shop, pottery area, painting areas, and about any kind of thing. It's a pretty big place with about 500 people. They also have a big concert hall where they have speakers and music. They also have games, road trips, and all kinds of activities like card games, billiards and so on. The staff members I met were all nice.

Capital Manoris a wonderful community. We moved my mom in a year ago. She was becoming rather shut in and was no taking care of herself as far as meals and has some dementia issues. Now she eats better, has made friends and is in a safe environment. I saw the review on the pool, but I have used it and found it to be a really nice public pool, my family loves swimming and we are permitted to use it since she lives there. Employees are all friendly and helpful.

Capital Manor is attractive, and they’re planning to build more villas. The staff was very competent and very capable. We saw some people in their pool, but it was very warm and very highly chlorinated. Otherwise, the place was fine. I would give the pool a very low score.

My husband and I visited Capitol Manor last month. His Auntie, who is partly disabled, wants to move to a retirement home because it's too difficult for her to manage her home by herself any more and her kids are worthless when it comes to helping her with anything. So we told her we'd shop around for her and then let her know what we thought of the places around the Salem area. Capitol Manor was nice and she liked it the best, so she'll be moving there soon. It's been here a while and has a good reputation in the community. There were lots of activities for older adults and we were told that there were little "mini-groups" of friends within the community that got together to enjoy crafts together, like carving or quilting. Auntie is too much of a recluse and so we thought that would be good for her. It's in her affordability range, too, which was a big issue. She hates to cook for just herself so it's nice that meals are served here. With Auntie in a retirement home we will worry less about her. We are afraid her worthless kids will completely forget about her now that she'll be in what they call "old people storage" but we and others in her family do still care about the old darling and it will be nice to visit her here, knowing she'll have folks looking out for her and new friends to keep her interested in life.
