We visited Brookdale Geary Street. The marketing lady, Marlene, was great. She's very helpful, knowledgeable, and very nice. We ate food in the dining room, and it was very good. So I would say that the location and the food were my favorite things about the place, and everybody I met was great. They don't have a designated exercise room, a couple of rooms seem like they're going to be unused, and they have two libraries that are empty every time we go there. They have a nice garden and courtyard that was a favorite, so that was good. It's near restaurants and shopping areas.

Brookdale Geary Street seemed really caring and resident-centered. Of all the places I visited, the lady from this place was the only one that asked about what my dad's needs were and what his interests were. We have tried eating the food and Dad really enjoyed it. We met the resident ambassador and we were able to learn more about the place from a resident's point of view.
The apartments seemed nice. The place looked pretty well kept up. They have a small theater, resident run groups, all kinds of activity groups, some transportation available, a nice dining area, and an onsite beautician/barber. They also have a courtyard that's really nice. They've got garden boxes in them. When we were looking at a room for Dad, it overlooked that area, and he could plant if he wanted. So, it's a nice space.

We went to look at Brookdale Geary Street, and we just fell in love with the place. It was clean and smelled good. The staff was wonderful. We talked to some of the other clientele there, and my parents fell in love with it.
The staff members were very friendly. The staff who assisted us was very professional, great personality, and very helpful. She knew what she was talking about. We were able to ask her a lot of questions, and we got satisfactory answers. She took us to see all the amenities and showed us what they rent.
My sister has been there for a friend who was actually living there, and she said the food was excellent. When we were visiting, they had an ongoing puzzle out for them. They could do it whenever they felt like they could come in and work on the puzzle. They have bingo nights. They have a game night, like the word games. They also offer church on Sunday mornings, which is very nice.

Brookdale Geary Street is definitely like the gold standard like that is what we compare everything to. It was an amazing facility all around. The staff was great. They were interactive with all of the residents living there. They were very open and friendly. There were several that were coming and going having family picked up, so in no way was it like a prison. They could come and go as they please. The dining facility was amazing and top-notch. I like the restaurant-style. The rooms are not tiny. It's a decent size living area that's pretty private. The staff was wonderful. All the staff that we interacted with was amazing.
They had a lot of fireplaces and cozy sitting areas. They did have outdoor courtyard areas. They had arts and crafts. They had activities like the very first time that I talked with the lady scheduling the appointment does she called to confirm and to make sure everything they were in the middle of a Halloween party, and it sounded pretty wild and very upbeat. From what I understand, they try to listen to what the residents want to do. They take a poll, and they hear what their residents want to do, and I like that too. They're setting up things that everybody who lives there wants to do, which is important.

My father stayed at Brookdale Geary Street. It seemed like they didn't come in and do the housekeeping enough. Every time I was there, the dishes were still left in the room. He complained that when he would ring for them to come and help his wife go to the bathroom, it would be 30 minutes before anybody ever got there. The place looked clean and didn't smell bad. It's just way too expensive for the care you get.

My parents live at Geary St. now. I live 150 miles away from them, and each time I go there, I have to wash moldy, dirty dishes. Housekeeping vacuums and nothing else. The resident aids for the most part are incredible, but have very little time, and even less training. The turnover there is massive. The management seems to care little for their employees, less for their residents, and are actually aggressive toward relatives when questioned about their parents care. My mother had a huge head injury that went unreported until I arrived from out of town, and I ended up taking her to the emergency room. The administrator there suggested that if I thought it was so bad, why didn't I take her to the doctor. When I took her to the doctor, they were concerned about a fractured skull and immediately sent her to the ER. Bruising was all over her skull, down her cheek, and around her neck. This was not reported or even referenced in her records until I came in from out of town Monday morning. I still have not received a report from Brookdale on the outcome of that. My mom is now in memory care, and I personally witnessed her being touched and "handled" by men residents three times in one weekend. I reported it. I have repeatedly called adult protective services, and the elderly care ombudsman. I have been told by employees there that nothing I do will change the way things are done there, but its' great that I keep trying. DO NOT take anyone you care about to this place. We were told every effort would be made to keep our parents together. NO effort was made, they are now separated after 68 years of marriage. I do not have the power to move them, or I would. I just keep hoping State of Oregon regulatory agencies will take care of this place. The caregivers and Natalie are awesome.

I am the son of a former resident ( my mom). 4 yrs ago is when we put my mom in this facility. The last 2 yrs we’ve had nothing but major problems. Ants found on uneaten food trays left out for my mom to eat. She can hardly see at all. I’m glad I came and found it before she did. Brought this to attention to all the staff from maintenance to the E.D. ( E.D. Is hardly onsite & often doesn’t return calls) Fought ants for the last 4 months. HEY BROOKEDALE!!!!.FYI..ants come to eat when there is a lack of housekeeping. I would rate the housekeeping effort 1.5 out of 5.... Placing my mom on filthy soiled sheets (worst case you can imagine) ... these 2 examples is what led us to move out. There were many other events that added to the decision ....total lack of concern by the management ( excluding Natalie) . Most staff have a ““not my job” attitude. Sad but true. We have moved mom to a much nicer facility and just want to get the word out to protect those who have loved ones needing help..... Only a small handful of great staff members.... you know who you are

Brookdale Geary Street seemed very nice and pleasant. It was a newer, nice, bright, and clean place. Their studio room was on the small side; that's why we didn't choose them. They had nice grounds outside. The staff members I met were fantastic. The dining room was very nice, comfortable, clean, and looked like a casual restaurant.

My husband was a resident at the memory care for one month! I moved his because of the lack of care he received. Scheduled activities not done, linens not changed, he complained about the food and the whole place just seemed understaffed and disorganized. Even after bringing some of these things to their attention it still did not get done. The billing also was impossible to get straightened out. Reported everything to corporate.

Brookdale Geary was nice, but just seemed disorganized; more crowded, and more expensive.

My wife is in Brookdale. She has only been there for a few days, but so far, it has been a very positive experience. The staff seems to be caring and very attentive to my wife's need.

We loved Wynwood, and the administrator there was awesome. However, the room was shaped funny. It was very small and claustrophobic, so we had to go in a different direction. Everybody was very attentive. It was nice, and everything was kept up well.

Wynwood of Albany seemed to be a very adequate place for someone who has the need of a facility. They have several different rooms, with one or two bedrooms. They offer a well-balanced meal. They have a very good staff, and they are always right there to help you with your needs whenever you need them. The facility is very clean, and they take care of the room's bedding once a week. They also have a laundromat where you can do your own laundry. They have exercise and puzzle rooms you can use. The facility, for me, is very adequate.

I thought Wynwood was very nice. It was relatively new, and they were constructing more buildings. I had a tour, but I didn't taste the food. However, I thought they were kind of pricey for what they offered.

My grandmother was very particular when it came to what assisted living residence she stayed in. Wynwood of Albany was the eventual winner because of its well cared for grounds, amply stocked art room, and the quality of the food. She also got to decide if she wanted to go down to the dining room for dinner or stay in her room and she appreciated the choice.I found the facility clean and staffed by cheerful, knowledgeable people. The gift shop in particular was run far better than the other such stores in my grandmother's previous residences. My only complaints were the noise in the rec area (the televisions were often too loud and competing with each other) and the limited options when it came to off site entertainment. My grandmother had no real interest in joining in on these outings anyway, so it was of no consequence to her.Overall I would recommend Wynwood of Albany, particularly in the case of extremely limited mobility residents. Lots of good places to sit and chat.

I would NEVER put a loved one in this facility. They not only give your loved one the wrong medicines, but they are very likely to never give them their prescription medicinejjs. Hope that they are not homebound, stuck in their apt, not able to go down for their meals. They are likely to never get their meals delivered to them, or given meals that they can't chew or digest. If they fall down, they usually won't be discovered for quite some time. The trash is piled up for days, rodent infestion is most likely to happen as they do not clean the apts, even tho you pay them for that service. I would never again put a loved one in that facility. They are being investigated even as I write. Stay away from this facility.
