I toured Mary's Woods. The overall experience is very positive. The rooms were very nice. They have all the regular amenities, but what was more important to us was their two-bedroom units because a lot of places only have one-bedroom. The food seems to be very good. The range of options seems to be a good choice. They seem to have a wide array of different activities. The community is probably one of the better ones that I've ever seen. It seems to be a newer place, so everything is new and updated.

My sister-in-law is going to Mary's Woods. We chose it because of the surrounding environment, that it's a home rather than a bunch of apartments with amenities, the availability, and offering of health services was better than any we saw. We went to both independent and assisted living, but she will be living in an independent unit at the moment. We met a number of staff and they were very friendly, like they already knew her and were talking very personably. She has tasted the food, and the quality seemed fine. The quality of the maintenance and the use of the original materials was very noticeable. She has a dog, so she needs to be outdoors. The floors on which she could have outdoor access for the dogs have lovely patios, or even little 10x12 outdoor garden type patios. They were really noticeably lovely. The bus line is right at the entrance and it takes us right down to Lake Oswego itself, or to gardens or whatever. The location is in the suburbs, but it's very easily accessible to roads. They have a shuttle three times a week from Mary's Woods itself that takes people to the grocery stores and library and things like that.

My mom was at Mary's Woods. She was living there in her own apartment, so it wasn't even really assisted living, but that was an excellent place. I also have a friend who's there in the nursing home part of it. The nursing home part was really, really nice, it's expensive, but they had good care, good food and they're pretty helpful and friendly. The communication was not that great, but I'm not a family member, that might be different if I were. Where my mom was, I think everyone had housekeeping once a week, I'm not sure. It's available, I should say, but I think you pay for it. They had meals available that you can pay for and you can dine in. The food was very good. They transport people to various places. It's a beautiful place, but it cost a lot. It's a place you buy in to.
