I like the caretakers. The care manager is very experienced, and she was very good at dealing with my mom's negativity, helping my mom to get settled and feel comfortable and safe in the place she was, and in helping me with dealing with my mom when things came up. Mom is settled in there, and the facility is very clean. She is in a semi-private room, and in her room there was not enough room for two beds.

My Mom has moderate stage Alzheimer's but I was just getting exhausted caring for her in my home. My husband and I checked out a ton of memory care units in the area, but when we went to this one, it just felt right. It is not as luxuriously appointed as the others, but the staff is so caring toward the residents, and much of the staff has been working there for many years, which I take as a really good sign.
My Mom has been there a little over 6 weeks, and although she wasn't happy about it at first, she loves it there now. She says the food is great, the staff is nice, and she has made a lot of friends (her own age) and loves the activities. Her mental status exam has improved by 3 points (not in memory, just executive functioning). She actually seems to be much happier than she was when living with me. (I'm a little jealous.) In any event, whatever they are doing, it works!
