My mother had dementia and resided at SouthHills for about 2 years. I found the nursing staff caring but administrators mostly ineffective when needed. When my mother died quite a bit of newly purchased jewelry and clothing was not returned. The faciliity agreed those item should have been returned and offered to pay for them. As instructed, I filed a claim. Thereafter for months the administrator failed to return my calls or follow up. Ombudsman helper for SouthHills talked to the administrator one time and says she can help no further. I've now filed a complaint with a state licensing complaint unit. I've follow this problem because care facility administrators should not be allowed to neglect their duties to surviving family members.

Had a stroke after supporting my family for 25 years as a medical transcriptionist and was placed at South Hills. I desperately needed to know whether I could still type, but no one would let me try. Got so overwhelmed there that I ran into traffic during a walk and was discharged to the psych ward, AFTER south Hills disposed of my collection of medical records, childhood comfort plushie and everything else they didn't think I needed. Couldn't eat the heavily processed meat and lost lots of weight. And no one did anything about the resident who dumped trash on me. Activities? Vegetating was very . . . boring.

My Mother was in this facility for about 3 months and died at this facility. I am the oldest of 2 surviving sons and drove from 4 states away to visit her. I made multiple visits, twice a day for hours on end while in Eugene. Upon my first visit I was told by her case manager that she had and was dying of cancer - she wasn't. I was also told that she had dementia - she didn't possess those traits when tested by the one doctor I witnessed visiting her. Once I needed to leave and return to work I left my phone number and asked to be called if her condition deteriorated or it looked like death was at her door. The doctor said there are very specific signs when the body is about go give out. I was not called and she died alone! How hard would it have been to give me a call a few days prior and I could have been there! In all fairness, I did see some caring nurses and assistants who would try to accommodate my Mother and visiting family when there. However, that is insufficient to offset the poor management and their oversight. I saw NOTHING that would lead me to believe that this facility or staff emulates Christian values. I do NOT recommend this facility for anything.

Amazing staff! Everyone treats you like family, so caring. I would highly recommend this facility! My mom was and is treated so well, she considers them her family.

This is a horrible place for your loved ones. My son had traumatic brain injury and had a tube placed in his stomach at the hospistal, before the transition from the hospital to south hills, they started him on soft foods, after being moved to the south hills rehabilitation they completely stopped feeding him orally and only through his tube out of laziness. Now from not being fed orally for so long they say it isnt safe. I also went to see my son one early afternoon and found him in his room with the door shut and light off, wide awake sitting on his bed in nothing but a diaper. I would not recommend this rehabilitation place to no one. As a matter of fact i would not even consider this a REHABILITATION place.

This place is dirty, staff is slow and complacent. My friend entered with a back injury and was taken out to the emergency room with an infection that the attending called "suspicious". We waited over 45 minutes for the light to be answered and a nurse walked in and found out my friend needed to use the bathroom so she walked into the hall and shouted at the top of her lungs for the aid to come to this room that this lady needed the bathroom!!! This is supposed to be a Sub-Acute facility but the "skilled" care is severely lacking !!! The CNA on staff didn't know how to properly move my friend nor did the "Transfer" team who jerked her up in her bed on a pull sheet without lowering the head of the bed. They were also unwilling to meet her dietary needs because she has some difficulty swallowing rather than giving her food she could eat they put her on a pureed diet. Avoid this place at all costs.
