I toured the 5400 South Apartments in Tulsa, and it was fine. I like the place very much. The community center was not open, so I did not see that. It is a very nice place and very well maintained. The staff were very friendly. The one who accompanied me was very helpful.

My Mom was a resident for over two years.. The manager was fantastic when we first met her but shortly after the lease was signed, her true personality showed itself. The air conditioner went out in her apartment the first night and we had to rent a hotel room. Two other times during the two years this happened again and the maintenance guys always apologized and said the A/C units were always going out due to the age. Multiple apartments are rented by people of all ages including several college age residents. When you tour the apartments please recognize that there is very little that is geared towards elderly residents. Uneven sidewalks, holes in the grounds, debris on the ground from multiple trees, etc... The pool is very nice but ruined by a group that gathers there daily to cuss and drink all afternoon. When my Mom moved she was sent a bill for almost $900 and they kept her entire deposit. When asked for an actual receipt for damages, they said they did not have to provide one and it was a quote. On a positive note, the majority of residents are wonderful. However if you expect a senior only property, and caring manager, then look elsewhere.

The size of the rooms at 5400 South Apartments -- the square footage per unit -- it was very good. It was larger than the other properties I had visited. They have a clubhouse, they have social activities, and they have a pool. Their pricing is good; it is comparable. It is an older property, but the apartments are nice, and they have done renovations. The size of the units and just the atmosphere were very nice. It was homey, the residents were nice -- the ones that I met walking around -- and I just liked it. In fact, I went back yesterday on my way home from Tulsa. I am in Dallas now, but on my way home, we drove back through there and looked all the way to the back of the property where things were and everything. It was a great visit, and the property manager even followed up with a phone call, so I thought that was good.

5400 South is just a senior apartment. I was impressed with this place and it looked nice. They had a nice location and helpful staff who gave us a tour. They don't serve meals there or anything like that.
