The Hays House nursing center seemed to be kept in a clean and orderly manner. I happened to live out of state so I was not able to visit as often as I would have liked. My grandmother did complain of too many people having access to her room. My grandmother did enjoy not having to cook meals for herself, although she would have preferred to eat chicken fried steak and fried potatoes. She missed baking her famous pecan cookies and homemade bread. My grandmother complained about the noisy residents in other rooms and stayed mostly by herself. She did not have a television in her room for the last three months of her life, and I am sure she was quite bored. My grandmother did not like the smell at the nursing home, she said it smelled like old people. My grandmother was found dead sitting in her favorite rocking chair. She was dressed up, had her shoes on, and her purse was by her feet.
