I went to Urbana Place. The place looks nice and clean. I talked to a few of the tenants. I visited the place twice, as a matter of fact. The first time was later in the afternoon, and some of the residents were getting ready to play euchre. I went through the rooms and things like that, and they all seemed to be very nice, cozy, and clean. The employees seemed to be very nice. The thing that I did not like when I went back the second time, I thought I told him I would have lunch with him, but instead of meeting with the residents, I ate in a closed room with the manager. I didn't like that because I thought if I'm going to tour this place, if I'm going to live in this place, I need to experience this place, not put me in a room by myself with a man and have him sitting there talking to me while I'm eating. I did not like that at all. They have called back quite a few times, which I did not care for because I told him it would be a long while, and I put in my application for aid from the military. And another thing I did not like was he told me right up front, I had to have a $1,500 loan. If you were a resident and you wanted a glass of iced tea, you had to go up to a door, knock on the door, tell them what you wanted, and they would give it to you. I did not like that. I know they would take you to doctors' offices and take you to the grocery and different places like that if you want to go. They would take you to Walmart and let you spend an hour there. I had my own car, and I'm still driving. The bus ride didn't bother me one way or another. The staff kept their cool, they kept me interested, they were very knowledgeable, very friendly, and they wanted me to come back.
The meal I had was sweet and sour meatballs, broccoli, and grapes. I didn't want the bread and I drank ice water. The meal was delicious. The chef went an extra mile to make sure that I got what I wanted. Being a diabetic, I was very selective, and they came through with flying colors.
I gave them a three because they were lacking in some things. If you have a guest that is coming to inspect the place, and it is lunch time, let them have lunch with the residents because if you're going to live there, you're going to be eating with the residents three meals a day, seven days a week. Also, if I was the manager there, I would have an open place where you, a resident, could go to get, say, an apple, an orange, and a banana. That they could get soda, iced tea, and coffee. All they have to do is walk up to this stand and get it in a cup or glass and walk away. They would not have to depend on somebody else to get it for them.

I like that Urbana Place was a lock-down facility, and they didn't have to wear an ankle band or a bracelet. The dining area was very nice, I had gotten there around supper time and it had several people in it. The food must be good for all of them. They have a chef and they have a menu that they can pick from for what they want. They have a special dinner they make too. They have a separate dining room if you would want to come and dine with your family, you can go reserve the separate dining room. Like if you want to do a birthday party or something, you can reserve that. They had a really neat enclosed porch area. When you walk in the door, in front of you is a sitting area with a big fireplace which was comfortable. They had another sitting area with a big-screen TV on the wall, and some people were sitting in there watching the movie. The staff who helped me there was very nice. He called me since then to see what I have decided to do.

My mom has been at Urbana Place for 5 years. I did not think she would live long when she went in because she had lost so much weight and was falling at home a lot. She has gained a healthy weight and is 97 this year. It is good to know her needs are taken care of. They have the best nurses and the staff is always smiling and so helpful.

My parents moved into Urbana Place. They have a very nice dining room area and a couple of different areas for the residents to sit and either watch TV or just relax. They have a library that seems to be fairly well stocked. They also have a TV and DVD player in there. They have a courtyard in the center that the residents are able to take and use. Pets are allowed there. The staff is friendly. The rooms are a little on the small side. It would be a little bit nicer if they were a little bit larger. They really seem to like the food. Dad says that the evening meal is a little light and he would like to see a little bit more. They have plenty of activities.
