Don't want to sound one-sided, so I will start with the positive. I will only comment on items that directly affect the residents. The memory support unit, for the most part, the rooms are clean, rarely any odor. Residents have some activities, and some of the meals, mainly breakfast, are palatable. I would say maybe 1% of staff genuinely care about the residents. This is where it ends! I always believe that ultimately the conditions of a facility starts with management! Management has the authority to demand things from their paid employees! It is so sad, and a feeling of helplessness when nursing assistants are incompetent, lazy, and show no compassion for the most vulnerable people with dementia. The second-shift STNAs are the worst! They never smile to the residents. They rarely have conversations with the residents, and you would think caring for some of the same residents they would have formed a bond where they would care about their interests; but no! The residents are nothing but a number to them, as if they don't deserve any compassion. I could write a booklet on all the negative things that I have observed over the years my loved one has been at this facility from the first time she entered McGregor to this present day. I have witness an aide trying multiple attempts at getting a bp reading on a resident with layers of clothing. I have witnessed a nurse not following instructions on dosage for meds. I have witnessed food remaining on dining room floor for hours after meals have ended. I have witnessed an aide changing a wet bed of resident, and returning the resident back to bed, but failing to remove the resident's wet clothing. I feel so helpless because most nursing homes are in this dire state unless you are fortunate to have the money to put your loved one in a private-pay facility where I am sure, management will not accept anything less than being competent. I will not say don't put your family member in McGregor, but I will say, constantly keep on everyone working at the facility to do what they are getting paid to do. I really wish management would see the need to fire those that don't provide the standards that they claim to have on their website!
