We have selected Bickford of Lancaster. My mom has been there for about a month now. It's a beautiful building and it's well kept up. Outside, it's kind of set right back in so it's like a private area and there's not a lot of traffic or anything. Right now, my mom is there for assisted living, but she'll be reevaluated this coming week. They have an exercise program every morning. After that, they have their breakfast. They always have some type of activity whether it be crafting, coloring, or bingo. They have a movie night. They have all sorts of activities.
Food could be a little better. It's not bad. It used to be good, and that was one of the reasons my mom wanted to go there. She used to play cards with some ladies out there, and she always raved about the food. But I guess that kitchen supervisor has left, so they're looking at getting a new one. In the meantime, they're just following recipes and tweaking anything to make it better. However, the nurse's aides are fantastic, and the nurses are good, too.
The people above the nurse's aides including the director, really do everything to make it seem like the greatest place on Earth to get you there, but then once you're there, they're not great at addressing your concerns. They have an issue with communication from shift to shift. For instance, my mom should not be going to dinner at 4:45 or even 5:00 and being left sitting in the dining room until after 7:00 to 7:30. One night she didn't get back to her room until 8:30. We requested that she never be taken back down there for dinner. She gets very tired at that time of day, which causes more confusion, of course. But a simple request to only take her down there for lunch has not gotten through because she keeps ending up down there.

I toured Bickford of Lancaster and it was good. I didn't see much interaction with the people that lived there though, but the people that showed me around were very polite and let us take as much time as we needed. Some of the rooms were carpeted, some weren't. They had a great big area for gatherings and crafts. They had humongous bowling pins and stuff for the residents. Their cookies were really good. We had them baked fresh out of the oven and we left with fresh baked cookies. That would have been my first pick, but financially I had to pass. I only spoke to one person there, but she was very friendly. It was very clean.

We toured Bickford of Lancaster. They're very nice and very good, they're just pricy. It's all self-pay and they only have so many Medicare beds or Medicaid beds. We had hoped for memory care, but that costs so much more. We were gonna go for the assisted living and see how mom's gonna go from there. They were just keeping their tours to a minimum when they could. They would show you what you needed to see, but as far as the memory care since mother most likely was going to be put on assisted living first, we did not see it, but I saw pictures and it looked nice. We know some people who have had their family there and it's all compliments. It's very clean and there were no odors. We only interacted with the person that gave the tours and he was nice. He cared and he's very compassionate.

I toured Bickford of Lancaster. I was very impressed in terms of staffing and the cleanliness of it. It's not a new facility, but it was everything we have hoped for. The place of activities and the interaction of the residents with the staff were impressive. The menu was diverse, and people had choices. The activities that were provided, while at some places we had seen seemed to be almost childlike, but there, they seemed to be appropriate, and they had choices for people to engage in. They had a beautiful library. My mother loves to read. She loves to get her hair done once a week, and they have an onsite beauty salon. Those were things that we found quite impressive. The physical therapy room was up to date. The person handling the marketing of it was very engaged, very thoughtful, listened well, and I thought, was very helpful to us.

I went to Bickford of Lancaster. It was a very nice facility. It's a large facility. I saw two different types of rooms, their dining area, their salon and their fitness centers. I did sample food. They had a banana bread. I had a sample of it, and it was very good. The staff was very nice and professional. The last visit I had we wore masks, did social distancing, and everything. I'm sure that within the facility they had taken different types of things to prevent the spread of the virus.

We took a tour of Bickford of Lancaster for my mother. They had a huge area where a lot of activities were going on, and it was kind of divided up, so that way it may not interfere with another activity. They had a piano so they could do singing. One lady would have a radio on, and she was singing and dancing and trying to get folks to come in and join her and hang out with her. Once or twice a month they have a store, it was just things that are out in the open. You could buy things that you would want, like bottled water, masks, energy bars, and a variety of food and things, if the person staying there wanted to get anything. They have a schedule that puts up a list of exercises, and the types of exercises. They had a list of today's menus so you could see what was going to come up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner being displayed. They had announcements, and fliers all over the place, so you could see the things that were coming up. They had a monthly calendar that says, what's coming up, and on what day. I thought my mother would like that, then she could go out and be with a community of people. My mom liked playing cards, so I thought this would be a nice thing. She could go to the table and play cards and different games. The place looked very clean. It looked like they took a lot of time, and care for their place. The one who assisted me on the tour was very nice and very friendly.

If Bickford of Lancaster was a little bit more affordable, it would have been the place that we chose for my father-in-law. Everybody that we dealt with was super nice and willing to help. The facility was really pretty, and I thought the layout was really nice. The parking lot was close to the door, and there was enough space for the residents to be able to go outside and walk around. I would definitely say it's an ideal place. I really felt like they cared and the rooms were definitely ideal for what residents would need. The staff was really sweet and caring, and I think they definitely did a good job in showing us around explaining things and just being there when we needed it.

I am a friend of a past resident who recently passed away. I became involved when his son was searching for an assisted living facility. After an exhausting search, a miracle lead us to The Bickford. Upon entering the facility you feel right at home. The clean, spacious, well lighted entrance is very attractive. The amount of seating dispersed throughout the facility afforded to visitors and residents is well planned and comfortable. The variety of available rooms and sizes is diverse. The Bickford is ready, willing and able to modify some of the room arrangements to accommodate special needs. The staff is amazing and the administrative personnel is always available. The Bickford offers a diverse variety of activities for every type of resident. The staff makes sure you are reminded and assisted (if necessary) to attend activities of interest. The loving and compassionate care provided to my friend was amazing.

My parents are residents of Bickford of Lancaster, and it's beautiful. The staff is exceptional and really cares about every individual in their residence. My mother has participated in a few crafts, and they also go out of the facilities. She enjoys reading the paper. The location is easy to get to. They're in a studio apartment that's spacious enough for the two of them, and its the smallest of the rooms. They have a queen-sized bed, a nice-sized bathroom, and a little kitchenette with a sink and cabinets. They don't feel cramped, and the room is quite lovely. They can also get out to several living rooms and sitting areas. The grounds were gorgeous, and you can enjoy a lot of things outside during summertime.

Bickford of Lancaster was run by a couple of sisters and was independent plus assisted living. It was very nice and more reasonably, moderately priced. I had a sister-in-law who lived there until she passed, and another friend who also lived there. It was a very attractive building with a nursing home, an assisted living, and an independent living as part of it. They had all kinds of activities and a very large room where they did nothing but crafts or seminars. They also had an area with a private kitchen, a private dining room, and a living room, so if you and your family wanted to have a get-together, you could do it. Throughout the building, they had areas set up like a living room where you could sit and visit with your family and not be with everybody else; you could just be by yourselves. They had outdoor spaces outside of each independent apartment where you could have a flower garden if you wanted. They also had a walking trail that was set up so you could walk or go around on a scooter or a wheelchair.

Bickford of Lancaster was clean and updated. It seemed like a lot of the staff knew all of the people who live there and that there was a relationship between the people that work there and the people that live there. I liked that about it. Also, I liked the way that they kept their facilities secure.

Bickford was one in Lancaster that I toured. It was a little higher class. The thing that really jumped out to me about Bickford was their memory care unit called Mary B’s. I was so impressed with their Alzheimer’s unit. The staff at Mary B’s was wonderful. Their hiring process went above and beyond the normal hiring process for any type of assisted living facility. For the memory care, what really made a huge impression on me was that they have what they call stations throughout the memory care unit. One may have a vanity table with boas, some jewelry, and fancy hats to wear. They find out the patient’s history, what they enjoyed doing from the time they were a child throughout their lives, so that they really get a good picture of what that person’s life has been. If they are having a bad day or just a bad episode, they can redirect them to one of these stations in the hall that they can connect with. The person that did the tour at Bickford was very young and was quite good at the presentation he gave. He was very knowledgeable and very caring. I had another appointment to tour another facility after Bickford, and he was aware of that, but he dragged the tour on for a long time. That was probably the only downside of the whole day. The tour at Bickford took a long time and I think it was just because of the young man who was doing the tour.

Our family member was a refused a 'key fob' that is necessary to enter or leave the building, without our knowledge.
When I inquired as to why, I was told they have been waiting for a nurse to arrive to make an assessment.
Good luck trying to talk to a live person anywhere in the main office. Even their emergency hotline sends you to voice mail and states that they will return your call within 48 hours.
Really?? 48 hours! You've got to be kidding!

I recently transferred a parent to the Inn at Fairfield Village. Our family has had extensive knowledge of assisted living facilities as our parents have resided in this type of facility for several years. I cannot say enough about the lengths the staff have gone to in an effort to make our parent feel at home. The meals truly taste homemade and the choices for menu selections seems to cater to the tastes of our parents' generation. It is so important to me that staff are responsive to my parent's needs and I am seeing this consistently. Excellent communication with building management have made this transition smoother than I ever expected.

The "Village Inn" was a beautiful and nicely laid out community. They did have a lot of common areas for their residents. It was just very pleasant there. Their rooms were quite roomy, but I wanted more of an apartment-type setting. Most of their rooms include a bedroom, a bathroom, and a mini kitchen. To me, it was just like an oversized bedroom. Their staff was very pleasant and friendly. They have a minister coming every Sunday. I knew a couple of ladies that live there and they love the place. They did have a lot of things to do for their residents. I also saw their menu and it was quite versatile as far as selections. The only thing I didn't like about this facility was that if I want to have my laundry done or if I need any assistance in dressing or anything like that, I have to pay an extra fee. They also would charge you $45 to take you to the doctors and back.

My brother and I visited the facility on July 9, 2013. Julie the marketing director was very personable and knowledgeable and answered all our concerns. We didn't care for the way a nurse treated one patients that we were able to observe. Not nice at all and very curt. She also ignored another patient who was asking her a question. People did not seem happy at this place. We were looking for a place to accomodate our mother and sister. The apartments did not meet our expectations as they were too small for our family. The rooms range in size from 299 sq. ft. to the largest being 460 sq. ft. They would have to be placed in the smallest traditional suite and move up per list.

I recently moved my mother into this facility. I had toured three other facilities in our area and felt that this facility had the most to offer and quite frankly had the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff.
I have been an LPN for 40 years, 30 of those years were spent in skilled geriatric care, mostly Alzheimer's patients. Even with this experience, I found that things were totally different from the family"s point of view.
This facility has met all of my mother's needs, encouraging her to eat regularly, and socialize with other residents. They make sure she takes her medications properly and help her with her personal hygiene.
The staff shows that they care about their residents and they truly enjoy their jobs. I have been a frequent visitor, as have my two brothers, and never have we seen a staff member walk past a resident, visitor, or family member without offering a kind word and a genuine smile.
I could not be happier with my choice of facilities for my 91 year old mother!
