Genacross Lutheran Services - Wolf Creek Campus was very nice, we liked it. When you first walk in, it seemed very open, and the layout was nice, they have the nursing home, and assisted living in the same building, but it's separate. It's the same building, but the dining area is separating the two, so you go to the right for assisted living, and you go to the left for nursing care. It seemed pretty modern, and the apartments were nice. They're a little bit small, but it seemed like the way that they were laid out was pretty nice. The bathrooms were accessible for the handicapped, it was a good-sized bathroom. I have no real complaints, it seemed like the place was kept up pretty nicely. The person who gave the tour was very nice and kind of knowledgeable, but I think she might be kind of learning as she goes. It seems like she's recently had more duties added or something like that. So sometimes she seemed kind of iffy, but she seemed pretty knowledgeable. They have lots of activities, they have places where people can do puzzles, and they've got a TV area. They've got things like different things on like every single floor and they have different things available for the residents to participate in. They're currently working on updating some things like people are moving in so they're updating rooms as they're needed.

I love the whole community of Genacross Lutheran Services - Wolf Creek Campus. I love the manager, and everyone is very nice and very friendly. They are always taking care of my brother. They are helpful, very kind, and warm. It is very good because it feels like a home. It's a beautiful community. The location is good, as well as what they offer. Their apartments are clean and in good condition. They have bingo, crafts, exercises, and a church (which is something that's important for us). They have all types of amenities. It's a perfect place.

My mom has moved into Genacross Lutheran Services Wolf Creek. So far, we're satisfied with it. My mom has a bedroom, a bathroom, a nice living room, a microwave, and a small refrigerator. She doesn't have a kitchenette. The staff, so far, has been caring and friendly. I'm satisfied with them. My mom does some crafty things, physical therapy, exercise, and sing-a-longs.

We visited Wolf Creek. The staff was very knowledgeable, very kind, and had been there for a number of years. The place was very clean, luxurious, and way above my price range. They have occasional field trips and parties.

Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek was a nice facility. They had an entirely independent living building. I did not tour this facility, but it was a fairly new complex. The unit that I was in was a rehab room. They have a rehab wing where you can go for short-term care, and then there are people who are living longer term but would need some kind of nursing care or overseeing. They have a nice chapel, nice lobby and social areas, and a nice therapy room, and the people were very warm and welcoming. All the rooms were private and were very nice. The thing that was impressive in their memory care unit that I did not find in any of the other facilities I visited -- most of the facilities are going to alarms and they would be prepared to handle somebody who would be a wanderer. They do not put these alarms on all individuals; they use the alarm if needed. But they could put alarms on the back of the wheelchair and attached to a person’s shirt, and if they tried to get up then it would just connect because of the magnet attached. And they also could put a magnet underneath the seat of a wheelchair or a chair which would indicate if the person tried to get out or lifted their weight that would alarm the staff that the person was trying to get out. They have alarms that would be placed on the walls that would indicate the person in the room is moving about, and if there was somebody who was not supposed to be moving about alone, that would signal the nursing staff that they needed to come. They are one of the few that still could put a bed alarm and would still put a bed alarm on if it was necessary to indicate a shift in weight or that the person had left the bed, so that they would come. They were very safety oriented, and I was impressed with that. I thought that they were extremely concerned about the safety of their personnel particularly in the memory care unit. If you want to stay there full time, their long term residents are on the second floor in this one wing or in another wing. You don’t go there with the assumption you never have to leave because they re-evaluate again to see if they would be a good fit for their facility. Not that they don’t take Alzheimer’s or memory care people, they take men, women, all faith, all color, all health problems, but if there is an individual who they really feel would not be a good fit and might upset the balance of their more permanent community, they feel that in the best interest of that particular patient and of their current residential individuals that they should re-evaluate, and if there would be a better facility for them somewhere else, they discuss that with the family. There were a lot of people moving around in the facility, both men and women, wheelchairs, walkers, otherwise. They have a little pantry store if people wanted to go down and purchase from a little store, but if they were not able to get out they kind of have basics as far as whether it is food or hygiene or other kinds of products or they would get things for them. You could go to the dining room or choose to eat in the rooms.

The grounds and facilities are beautiful! My mother was in the assisted living portion for 1-1/2 years and I'd say up until the last month her care was pretty good. The last month or so her cognitive ability began to decline more and so did her care. When my mother was admitted they knew, as we did, that she had dementia - her doctor who is a gerontology doctor recommended this place but when my mother's dementia worsened they said she was not a candidate for the nursing home. We would have never moved her there had we known she couldn't transition to nursing. My advice - if your loved one has dementia or Alzheimer's - take them to a memory care facility right away where the aides are properly trained with this disease. Save them and your family from the trauma of having to move them again. I'm rating this poor only because the last month she was there she was not properly cared for and that is totally uncalled for. Two residents there even commented that my mother was not getting the proper care she deserves. No matter what your disease is - we are still human beings and need to be treated with dignity.

We were very impressed with the facility. It was very clean and very friendly, and it did meet our needs. We know several people who are there already; some from Church and just friends that we've known from the community. The only setback was that it was a lot more expensive. Security was very good, and safety appeared to be good too. We've had distant family members in there, and the food is good -- I've eaten there. They certainly took good care of the people right up until the end of their lives. I'd give them a four only because their prices were too high.

I volunteered in a variety of areas in this nursing home which also incorporates an assisted living community. While my great-grandfather was alive I wish that this home had been available to him. Not only does it offer a variety of places which make it more of a community than a home, such as a gift shop and a bauuty salon, but the many people who run these locations enjoy their work, and I heard from more than one employee the reason they work at Wolf Creek is because of what they saw at other places when their parents were moved to a home. Many open spaces in the design of the building encourage mingling of patients and visitors and family was always welcomed into activities which often included bingo and card games. The staff also seemed to go the extra effort to make the family feel welcome with a smile or talking about how their loved one missed them. I think its important with a nursing home to make the experience not only pleasant for the elderly, but for their family, because it can be hard seeing a loved one incapable of caring for themself and any extra unpleasantness seems only one more reason to skip the occasional visit.
