I just loved The Villas of Scioto. I love the layout of the home. I like the fact that there were individual homes. You don't feel like you're living in an apartment house somewhere, so you have that independence and privacy. The house itself was nice. It's very spacious, very light, very airy, and there are a lot of high ceilings. They have big rooms, a patio, and a garage. It was so nice, and it was reasonably priced. That's a big thing with these places; they're so ridiculously expensive. I don't have to pay for food because I have my own place. I don't want to sit down in a dining room with all these people I live around and eat mandatorily. I have something called Candida, which is a yeast infection of the intestines so I can't eat flour, no pasta, no bread, and no starchy vegetables like corn, potatoes, and carrots, and the list goes on and on. I can't eat red meat, I can't eat mushrooms, I can't eat vinegar. So, there are so many things that I can't eat because it tears up my stomach. And that was one thing that appealed to me, I could do my own cooking there without paying for something I'm not getting. You're not forced to eat food that you don't want. And I don't want to sit with a bunch of people. I'm young for my age. I think young, I look young, I feel younger, and I do not want to sit in a geriatric ward eating every meal. I know it sounds terrible, but to me, it's just so depressing. The young lady who manages the property was so nice and so helpful and took me around to the place that I was going to look at. She was very, very pleasant and very encouraging. The place is very clean and very nice. The only thing is the neighborhood. I just want a nice, quiet, and peaceful place. Parsons Avenue is a bad neighborhood, and it is right at the perimeter of the property. And mostly you have to drive through those areas if you want to go somewhere, so that's not good, plus the traffic.

We really liked The Villas of Scioto. It's gated. We looked at the two-bedroom unit, and it was very spacious. They had the walk-in shower that we liked for my mom. They even had their own little area that she could sit outside that was kind of serene; it looked out in the country. If she didn't want to cook or anything, she could go up to another area like the assisted living area and eat there or she could have meals delivered down to her. We're just amazed at how spacious it was. If at any point where you needed to downsize to the assisted living, it was right beside it. The staff was exceptional. In fact, we had gotten lost and she had to go out of her way to walk down to a gate to let us in. My sisters and I went plus my great nephew, and he accidentally had left one of his toys. We called her and she went out of her way to walk over to get the toy to make sure it got back to us. They were very nice.

My sister and brother-in-law like The Villas of Scioto, but it was, way above their budget. Plus they didn't have anything available. Nevertheless, they were very pleased with this place. It is just like a house. It is more private and more independent living. The staff members were really nice. They're limited to how many residents they have there for independent living. From what I understand from the director, the people that's there, they pretty much stay there. Their room is very nice and very spacious. It has a garage and a driveway. Everything is apartment-like. They have a refrigerator and a stove, too. I was very pleased with it.

I will move into the Villas of Scioto. The tour was wonderful, and Debbie, who showed me around, was really great. A couple let me in their house so I could see what it looked like, and so it was a very good experience. I was very impressed.

Scioto is a healthcare campus. They also have villas here and I'm in the independent villas. My health is not great so I brought mother here to the assisted living. I was able to buy into the independent villas or single condos and when I need to go up to the assisted living I can leave the villa and go to the assisted living. I love the nurses and I've gotten to know them by name. I know most of the aides by name and I know all the kitchen help. I've been very pleased with the staff. The food is 8 out of 10, there are some meals mother likes and other meals aren't so great for her. They have bingo and ice cream socials. Mother and I had taken the ice cream socials every week. There are enough activities that we can pick and choose. They have a lot of church groups that come in to entertain with music so it's very enjoyable and it's enough to keep you busy if you want to be busy.
