I never wanted my Mother to go to the Oak Pavillion. There are so many rumors about it being a filthy place that people go to to essentially die. My mom's social worker at the Saint Elizabeth hospital in kentucky would have it no other way. She'd never sent anyone anywhere else, despite my pleas to get her to the Drake in Cincinnati. They assured both me and mom that she would only be in the nursing home for a week, nine days tops. Nine days turned into a month and a half, during which my mom developed a urinary tract infection. She was too heavy for a Hoyer lift, and they took it away. She had a bedside commode, but they took that, too. They resolved to lift her up manually, and the staff didn't like it, and told my mother. During that time, also, my stepdad cancelled her insurance out of spite, which resulted in my mom not getting even the basic care in that filthy place. She contracted sepsis and died after no more than 45 days at the Oak Pavillion.
