I have chosen Green Hills Center for my husband. It's everything from independent living, assisted living, and skilled care, and it has dementia units. They have individual apartments and condos. Right now, he's in long-term care. I knew when it was built, I was aware of it. I've known people that have gone there and people that lived there. And so, I've known about it for about 50 years now. They've done well with him and taken good care of him. I left the staff notes about my husband, what he likes and doesn't like, and things that are wrong. And they read all through those and discussed that with me. I felt that they did care about him as a person. Just simple things like he takes cream and sugar in his coffee, and that means that they want to treat him like he got treated at home.
They do have an activity director and they have a lot of things going on and that was one thing I liked. He likes people, so when nothing is going on, they can still set him someplace where he can watch people moving in and out and doing things.
The facility was extremely clean and very cozy. It has a fireplace and they have their Christmas trees up. I was just very impressed when we went in. They have adequate staff too, which a lot of places don't have. I compared the cost with several different facilities and this is just about the same as all the others. But I felt I got more for my money with this one than I did in some of the others that I looked at.

The food is poor for what the elderly need.
The Dr. and staff don’t listen to family members. If what you are saying doesn’t fit with what they have learned, they don’t listen to what you know about your family memeber.
You must pay attention or the staff misses too much (pneumonia ). Too often it has taken a family member to bring issues to the staff vs the staff noticing the problem.
The communication between shifts is awful, they don’t have a standardized system in place so items/ requests are guaranteed seen by the differing shifts .
If you admit your family member, you must pay attention.
Some of the staff try hard, but there is not sufficient staff for the patients. This issue, by what I understand is indicative of many facilities.
