We checked here. It is 50:50 between assisted living and memory care. The only unit I checked was the memory care because that's the only place they had space right this second time, but their assisted living residents mingled there all the time. There's co-mingling most of the day. It's only at night when there would be sundowning that tends to lead to needing for a locked unit. My mother would be escorted everywhere she needed to go; my father would pretty much have free roamed of the place.
The apartment was very nice. It was a good size for the two of them. Each apartment looks like it has an indoor patio overlooking the main lobby. There's a place for them outside their door to set up chairs and a table to sit and chit chat outside of their apartment. It looks like a little house attached to another little house, and all the patios kind of look at each other, so they could sit on their patio and chit chat, but they're fully inside of a building. In their kitchenette area, there is a window that looks out to their patio, so that staff could walk by (if their door was closed) and look in and see them, but not when they're in their bedroom. Their bedroom is a closed-off area altogether in that kind of stuff. It was the only place that had in-room laundry. Even in their memory care, they had in-room laundry, so that their clothes never had to leave the room. What happens is that the staff comes in and does the laundry with the help of the resident in their room. They would take their sheets and pillowcases and stuff out to the main laundry, but their clothing never leaves the room. The staff comes in and helps them get it in the washer and dryer, and then my mom and dad would be allowed to help fold it so that they still had some ownership to their laundry getting done, so that was nice. I didn't like the bathroom in that one. The bathroom had a bathtub, and my father is not able to step into a tub. He can't do that, and that was not safe for him.

My father moved into the assisted living part. We're very pleased, he especially likes the meals, the people have been outstandingly kind and attentive to him, and since he is diabetic, he has nursing care all day. They've done a fabulous job of maintaining his sugar. His apartment is very nice, very roomy, he has more than enough room than he needs, and he has a washer and dryer inside the unit which is fabulous. This is a huge benefit. Sometimes they have inside activities and outside activities that they go out as a group.
