Friend of a patient

My interaction with the staff has always been positive. I have been allowed to see my relative in a private room. Guest must wear masks to protect themselves and the patient. My relative has good food and does fun activities which he will share with me. This home sometimes has pastors visit on Sundays.

I think that my relative has a nice room equipped with a bed and closet. He shares his room with another patient,. The staff at Humboldt House really care about the patients who reside at the Humboldt House. My relative raves about the food. He also gets to watch some of favorite TV shows. He also partakes of the various activities that are available to the patients. There is a Gazebo outside that I can meet my relative and converse with him during the spring and summer. In closing I am greatly disappointed by the low reviews I have read. They are inaccurate in my opinion and false.

Medical attention at this site is poor. Room bathrooms are dirty. If you advocate for your loved one the administration and PA retaliates against you and your loved one. Trip hazards everywhere. Not a safe environment for any senior. Seniors don't have room phones either.

My dad stayed at Humboldt House for 2 months. There is nothing positive or anything that I like about the place. It is all negative. The level of care that my dad needed, they did not give him that. When he was there, he had bed sores or ulcers, and that kind of got worse. It took like six months for him to heal all of those ulcers on his back. I think that they are understaffed and over-populated. Since they don't have the resources to properly care for the people that are staying there, that's what caused the negligence.
The facility is very old. They need to do a lot of cleaning because every time you go there, it smells like urine, blood, and all of the stinks. It's not clean and not a safe place to stay. The food is nothing too nutritional for the person or anybody who's staying there. There was nothing fancy and nothing good. Since my dad had Medicare, we didn't pay anything. Overall, they are not attentive or concerned about the well-being of the people who are living there.

My mother was a resident at this facility. I visited her whenever I was in Buffalo. (Two/three times a year). Whenever I came I had to overcome the smell of urine. The floor was dirty & her sheets we always stained. Because I was not there regularly we relied on telephone communication. Her phone was paid with her funds. On two occasions it was not paid by the facility. Then for the last two months of her life the phone was disconnected. (Because they failed to pay the bill). When we did connect, she often told me she needed help from an aid or she had not been cleaned ( 1 pm) or she couldn’t get to her buzzer. On those occasions I called the nursing station. Sometimes she was helped quickly - sometimes not.
I have worked in 3 State Prisons in my career. The inmates were cared for better than my mother was at Humboldt House.
Two weeks after I filled a complaint with the State, she passed away.
I stand by my statement.
Don’t put a love one in that terrible place.

If you have any choice at all, at all, really and truly, do not go here. My family member had all of their clothes "misplaced", and we had to buy over 12 pairs of shorts and 7 pairs of shorts and 5 pairs of shoes over the course of a month; was still found almost every day walking around in a diaper with one sock, and completely abused and ignored. Horrible, horrible place. If you love someone, and you have one other choice, do not choose this place. Awful.
