My mother is in Ideal Senior Living Center. We're trying to get her into assisted living, but she'd been in quarantine for two weeks and now she's in quarantine yet again in rehab due to exposure. We haven't been in the building only because the facility is locked down. She said the food is good. The only thing we're able to do is phone calls. The care has been excellent. When we call them, they're very receptive to our questions. They've never given us a problem getting the phone to her when we need to speak with her because she's got dementia. It's all been good. The only problem we're having is getting her transitioned because every time she is on the verge of being moved there's an exposure, and she gets added another 14 days, which is frustrating her. The floor she's supposed to be on was quarantined. When the quarantine got lifted and she got off quarantine, then there was another exposure, so she's back into quarantine. She's been in quarantine for six weeks now and that's the only concern we have. We're trying to transition her, but we can't get her settled in and it bothers her a lot. Right now, she's under the impression she's just going there to show us that she can be on her own. The caseworker has been really good, but I haven't heard from her in probably a week now. I've had no complaints with them at all. They've been very receptive to our call. They send a notice out to the family on what's going on to keep the families aware of exposures and when they have to change the quarantine. They're doing the best they can. I used to work in a nursing home, so I know what they're dealing with. My mother said the food is very good, and she will let you know if she doesn't like it. They're doing the best they can to keep us apprised of everything, including their outcome. They've helped us make our decision.

My husband was in the Ideal Senior Living Center skilled nursing facility. It would be nice if they cleaned the room and didn't leave the dustpan on the floor. I consider that dirty. He broke his hip and that’s why he was there. But while he was there, he fell twice while he was standing at the sink. There was an aide with him, and I understand the aide wasn’t fast enough to prevent the fall, but I don’t understand why they had the door of the bathroom held open by a heavy trash can, which prevented him from standing more than halfway in front of the sink. I think that was a hazard, and created a danger to him as a patient. They need to put proper hooks on the door so they’ll stay open instead of using trash cans. The aides and nurses were fine.

Ideal Senior Living, the nursing home, was not so great. I’m a nurse, and I’m kind of familiar with all the nursing homes in the area, and that was supposedly one of the better ones. I’m really upset with them. Even though my mother-in-law wasn’t doing well when she came back from the hospital (after her gallbladder surgery), it was like they put her in a room and just forgot about her. I went in one day, and she was like in a fetal position covered up in bed. I took the blanket to pull it down, trying to wake her up, and she’s lying there in the nude. So I go to the drawer, and all her beautiful clothes and stuff are gone. They said they got lost in the laundry, and I thought that was a poor excuse. I was mortified. Nobody was helping her eat. We went in one day, and she was seating in a wheelchair. She’d been sitting in it all day long, and nobody was helping her do anything. She died shortly thereafter. When we first started out, they had a respite so that if we needed to go away for a weekend or something, we could take her there. They had one floor, and this is in the nursing home part of it. They had a dog and a bird, and the bird cages, and she didn’t mind that at all when she was able to be up and around and eat with the other people. They had one or two rooms they set just for respite. But when she had to do the nursing home itself -- NO. So that part for respite was great. Maybe they just reached the point where they figured, well, they’re dying anyway, why bother? They’re under-staffed, but maintenance was very good. I wasn’t happy at all with the nursing home.
