Baywinde is a community that consists of 2 separate facilities - an Independent Living facility called Castle Way at Baywinde and an Assisted Living and Memory care facility called Sage Harbor at Baywinde. I visited the one called Sage Harbor at Baywinde. All in all this was a great place, but I would not recommend putting a loved one in, especially if they require medical attention. They don't have as much experience or knowledge compared to other assisted living facilities I have visited. Overall the facility is very nice, the staff was friendly, and we enjoyed our visit there. The outside of the facility was kept up but not too much to do. The rooms were also small, and there is two floors with an elevator. The biggest disappointment was the food. It was horrible compared to other assisted living facilities! Just because of that we decided to look elsewhere. There are definitely better places to look for assisted living facilities.

Do not put a loved here unless you have not choice. We moved my mother out as the staff does not interact with the residents. We would find the staff sitting in the office and never greeting anyone. The resident were either sleeping in their rooms or in front living room. We would find mom in her room regardless of the time of day we visited with no one interacting with her. I heard from a family member that there is a male resident that would go in to the female residents rooms at night. The staff did nothing to prevent this.

My mom has lived at Baywinde for about 5 years. She started at first in their independent apartments and I cannot say enough about the staff and everyone there. Mom was very happy and made so many great friends. Now she lives in assisted living and was actually scared to make the move. Once again we are very pleased. She still sees staff from the other building and has found even more friends. She stays active with all the great activities and we find the nursing staff to be great! Mom is getting wonderful care from a very caring staff at Baywinde. I recommend Baywinde to everyone!

My loved one has been at Baywinde for almost a year now and absolutely loves it! In the past year the team of caring providers at Baywinde has really come together to make this place wonderful! My mom was at home not eating or doing her laundry or even watching tv anymore. We became very worried as she was losing weight everytime she visited the doctor. Since she has been at Baywinde she has gained 15 pounds, goes to almost all of the activities offered and has made so many new friends. My sister and I are thrilled except everytime we try to call her on the phone she is out at an activity! And when we visit her she always invites us to join in on the fun! The entertainers and happy hours are wonderful. I cannot say enough for what Baywinde has done for my Mom and my family. Not quite sure what the other reviews were expecting but the nursing staff is attentive, caring and kind and this is one very happy family member! THANK YOU!

This is a lovely place if your loved one doesn't require medical attention. When brought to Sage Harbor's attention, a 2 week notice for drug refills was required and asthma treatments that weren't being given, needed to be, I was told these issues would be taken care of. Until the asthma became a crisis, nothing happened. To date, I have not received, if any, prior notice about drug refills. So far, aside from the very nice personalities of the majority of Sage Harbor's employees, I am extremely disappointed with a few critical medical issues.

In 2007, my parents had to make an unexpected move into Sage Harbor following a medical emergency. They were already on the waiting list for the independent living area of this facility. This wait listed status gave them the priority needed to obtain a respite room. My sisters and I all lived out of the area and we were very pleased and encouraged by this solution to our parents current situation. They stayed there 2 months and we became increasingly disappointed with the facility. The major concern was that nurses, at least in 2007, were very limited in what they could do. If someone fell, the staff was required to call 911 rather than assist and evaluate the resident. If someone expressed dizziness they could not take a blood pressure. My mother could not stand, felt extremely dizzy and all they could do was call 911. By that point, her blood pressure had dropped to 73/53 and extensive hospitalization was required. If you have a loved one in a facility with nursing staff you need to make sure that they can perform the necessary and expected duties. Rooms in this facility were on two levels, necessitating an elevator ride to get to the activity and dining rooms. Each level does walk out on ground level, in case of emergency. The food in the dining room was another major disappointment. Regardless of what food was being served, it was extremely salty. This is not in the resident's best interest. The physical layout , decor and atmosphere of the building is very nice. When our parents ultimately needed to move out of the independent living facility at Baywinde, we chose a different assisted living facility in the Rochester area.
