We had a very nice tour at Atria West 86. We were given a tour by a woman named Kim. She was extremely friendly and personable. The atmosphere of the building was extremely lively and friendly. It felt like a community; it did not feel in any way like a hospital or that type of facility. It really felt like an apartment building, but with more of a feeling of community. There were lots of gathering spaces. There was a beautiful terrace on the roof. It was a very careful balance between nurturing independence and providing support. The outdoor space was very nice. It's very expensive, but it's very nice. That's the only thing. I wouldn't encourage anyone to go there who thinks it's not going to be expensive.

Mom was at Atria West 86, but we took her out of there. We had a bad experience and I have nothing good to say about them. The administrative people were terrible. They were only good at sales. I went to customer service and I never heard back. The sales people were fantastic, but they over promise. The turnover on the staff was unbelievable. Every time you called and asked for the assistant director, there was somebody different. The lower level people who work there are good but unhappy. If you have a problem, they don't address it. They didn't know when the doctor was coming. They had some decent programs, and they took them places. They had movies and the restaurant was good. Mom's room was a disaster. The window didn't open properly, and they never fixed it. As much as we told them to fix it and offered to pay for it, they never fixed it. The entrance way was too narrow for wheelchairs, and the hallways were also technically too narrow.

Atria West 86th has an exceedingly polite and resourceful staff. It was very clean. The residents who didn't know me were very friendly. The rooms were lovely. As I walked in, they were very welcoming, friendly, and competent.

Atria West 86 was a great place, but it was too expensive. Everybody was very nice and there was a room where there were a lot of people playing cards.

My mother is now at Atria West 86. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and very respectful. There is a Book Club, and there are political discussions, piano recitals, music recitals, and scrabble tournaments because most of the residents are more active and more intellectually in shape to handle these types of activities. The food and the service are excellent. Everything is served like a high-scale golf club. They have a full evening restaurant, a grill, and a coffee shop, so there are 3 restaurants, and you can go in all day long. They have the best food situation that we came across of all the different places, plus the quality of the food is very good. There are no visiting hours, and you can come in at anytime or even stay for the night. They have a couch that opens up, so you can have people come in. The food is amazing, but you can still have your own if you want because the apartment has a full kitchen, a stove, a dishwasher, and a sink. It is independent living, but they will still have someone come up and deliver your medicine to you, so basically you are taken care of, but the people are more independent still.

Atria West is beautifully decorated, and the staff is really wonderful. I am in a studio; it is one of the bigger studios but it’s still like a hotel room with a kitchen, microwave, and refrigerator. I prefer bigger, but it’s comfortable.

Atria West 86 wasn't entirely my choice for my father-in-law. My sister-in-law lives right next door and that became the biggest factor. It has been a bit bumpy, to tell you the truth. I don't think my sister-in-law asked some of the right questions, so it is not all their fault. But there were some things that could have been done better. It is a studio apartment and it has decent closet space and storage.
