My mom has moved into The Hamlet, which is part of The Village at Unity. The Hamlet is the assisted living. There's independent living, memory care, and a nursing home. They are near the Unity Hospital there. Our reasons why we chose this one is the location and because it had a nice area around it for walking. It seemed to have a fairly large ground around it with different places to walk and sit. So that's one thing that was nice because my mom likes to take walks. There aren't too many assisted living places in our area. We took a tour, and everything seemed clean and well maintained. The people seemed friendly. They seem to have some activities, so that was good. The one thing I don't like (and I think this is the problem with all assisted living) is that they're very rigid about the medication, unless they get a direct doctor's order. I understand they have to be like that, but they had a little trouble getting faxes from the family doctor. I understand they have to be very careful with their medications and anything that they do. They have three pull cords, and they're all for emergencies. They have this thing on your wrist, so they seem to have a good handle on it. The staff seems to be interested. Some of the food is good, but my mom didn't like the lunch so much. The facilities seem good. The value for the money seems to be about average for that type of situation. It's probably a pretty good value for the money.

The residents at The Village at Unity seemed less with it. It looked like more of a nursing home type set up, but it was assisted living. The residents were just sitting in chairs, following us around, and we couldn't get them to go back to their rooms. They have a hair salon, a recreation area, they have people come in and do activities, and a piano. The dining area was big and nice, and the rooms were nice and sizable, but the price was high.
