Millie's is a small facility with maybe 12 residents, and it was not a memory care facility, so it wasn’t a lock-down. It thought it was a family-style place; the staff was very attentive. Silver City is a town of about 5,000 people, and so it was very different. The residents were able go on fieldtrips and walks. Everything was accessible right in their backyard, and the majority of the people didn’t have memory or cognitive issues -- just gearing for lack of mobility as they age. That was a little more difficult for my mom because she was with people who certainly didn't match her activity level. My mom is super active. She would rather be outside doing anything than just sitting around. The staff was great in accommodating her needs. I have eaten there many times; the food is really good. They did quite a few field trips, and my mom even went over to a staff member’s house a couple of times where they made, like, 1,200 tamales. She would go to the grocery store with the staff when they do the shopping for all the residents. They have bingo and sometimes they bring in musicians; those kinds of activites. The best thing about it was the staff, for sure.

My mother in law had alziemers and we had chosen to care for her at home. My husband and I desperatly needed a break from taking care of her, since I had moved in with her, it was easier find somewhere for her to go. They advertised respite care and were recommened by a state alziemers group. It was supposed to be 100 dollars for the weekend. The building is quite old but homey and clean. She seemed happy when we left, I am sure she was as tired of us as we were of her. They were unable to care for her and called numerous times. They brought in someone to stay with her all the time. We left her friday afternoon, I ended up picking her up Sunday Morning, with a bill of over 400 dollars. I inquired about her staying again and was told it would cost 600 dollars for 48 hours. I understand that they are not equipped to provide alziemrs respite care, but they should not have said the they could. That was around 4 years ago, we never did fine good respite care, she died last year but she stayed in her own home and was happy there.
