Canterbury Village is a wonderful community. The staff are very caring and devoted to the residents. The food is not only delicious, but healthy. All in all, I am very happy that my loved one is in a place where I know they are being taken care of and being treated with LOVE AND DIGNITY!

We chose Canterbury Village of West Orange for my mom because of appropriateness and cost. It's very reasonable and good-priced for what funds my mom has. If she has to switch to Medicare they have a better guarantee than most. They do exercises, they go on a few outings, play bingo, and do therapy. There's a beauty parlor and a nice little chapel. People can do their laundry if they want to, but the staff can also do it for them. The place felt comfortable. The staff seemed helpful and satisfied.

The person who showed me around Canterbury Village of West Orange was very nice, helpful, and gave me all the information I needed. The facility was very nice. However, the rooms that I saw didn't offer a separate kitchenette area. You're allowed to have a microwave and a small fridge in your room if you choose, but you have to put it somewhere in your room. That and the bathroom situation was the biggest turnoff for me with the place. The bathrooms did not have raised toilets, and I think that needs to be upgraded tremendously. They had a wide menu variety. The dining room looked fine.

Canterbury Village of West Orange is small, and the price was within our price range for long-term care, so we're very pleased. My mother-in-law has met plenty of friends, and they have activities all day long to keep them busy. They have several courtyards, so it's a very pretty environment. The people are so friendly, and we're happy with her doctors. They serve three meals a day with everything pretty much included. It's a very small, quaint place, and thus far, we're extremely happy. She's only been there for about two and a half weeks, and she's already making progress and friends. The staff is extremely friendly and will answer questions and concerns we may have. We're extremely pleased with the entire staff since they're pleasant and all so wonderful.

I did not like Canterbury Village of West Orange. It was very depressing and seemed overly Catholic. A lot of places have a chapel that is non-denominational, but this seemed very much like a Catholic church. The person I made an appointment with wasn’t there, so somebody else had to show me around briefly. It was not the nicest place. The general space where they all get together was a little depressing. Of the places that I’ve seen, this was the one I liked the least.

I visited Canterbury Village. It was a very nice place. It was clean. Everyone was very pleasant. They seemed to be interested in one-on-one care. I believed their ratio of patient to staff was 8-to-1. They had a lot of activities that took the people away from the home, like buses that provided outing that would take them to movies and shopping if they so desired. They also had onsite care. If they got sicker when they came in, they would help them with physical therapy and things like that.

Canterbury Village of West Orange seems like a very pleasant living environment; it's very clean and spacious, and it has different areas that my mother can walk around. It’s safe for her as its all one floor. They have therapy, and they serve three meals and a snack.

I visited Canterbury Village, I liked it, and I spoke to the director, but it was not the level of care for my mother. It was also a little farther away from where we live. The girl that gave me the tour was great, and she gave us the information that we needed. There were about fifty people all on one floor, and it was cozy.

Canterbury Village looked OK, but everywhere I went, I could smell urine, and that was not good for me. The dining area was more like a cafeteria. It looked fine, but it was far away. They did have activities. I did see that they have people come in to entertain them. They also have a dog come in for companionship too.

Canterbury seemed clean, the staff seemed good, but it was not active enough for my mother. The rooms were quite small, and there was a long waiting list, so it put me off.

I always felt like the facility was clean and the staff was friendly. They had a variety of activities to try and keep the residents engaged. For example, Christmas caroles, movies, assorted presentations and shows. There were many residents with dementia. They also kept a very pleasant dining room where the residents came to eat dinner. It felt very cozy. In fact, the entire facility had some charm to it. I think the staff really tried to make it feel like a home away from home. The only disturbing part for me, was the my Grandmother fell a few times in their care and I didn't think they cared enough for her appearance. Helping to keep her clean and presentable is important to our family, as was her safety. I think after the first fall, more precautions should have been in place, such as moving furniture and getting her a better chair for her room. All in all, however, I would recommend this facility. It was clean and the staff was kind and seemed to care. However, I firmly believe that all residents need an outside advocate to look after their needs.

The Canterbury Village of West Orange was one of the few area assistant living facilities we visited. My first impressions was that it gave me a homely feeling from the outside and main foyer. The description of services was explained but I really didn't feel that they lived up to their expectations. They have a medical staff on duty 24-hours, seven days a week , which I thought was very important due to my uncle condition. After doing research on the doctors, they had a good re pore, which made feel very comfortable. Another aspect that was important was daily activities for active seniors. The activity agenda was not good to me. The activities seem planned for stationary seniors rather than active seniors. The dining setting made feel like you were eating in your personal dining area. The food quality wasn't the best but doable. The financial cost was on the expensive side for what they offered.

I visited Canterbury Village in West Orange on five occassions through an art program there. This is a warm and inviting residence. The staff greet you with a smile at the front door and try to address your needs instantly. Upon walking through the front door I witnessed how clean and meticulous the furniture and upholstery was. The furniture was in very good condition and the colors were bright and vibrant throughout the house. I say "house" because it felt like I was visiting a family in their lovely abode. It is a pretty intimitate group and I would imagine each resident gets the care and attention they require because the staff were so involved during my visit; they even participated in the activities. Upon completing the program, I was informed by a resident of how well she is treated by the staff. The majority of the diverse men and women who live at Canterbury Village are bound to wheelchairs so they require plenty of intricate attention; therefore, it was gratifying hearing her praises. I had no doubts about the genuine care of the individuals there because it was all revealed to me the minute I walked through the door.
