I toured the Sunrise of Mountain Lakes. It's a new place in New Jersey and I looked at their assisted living. I liked everything about it. My sister is in a wheelchair and the facility is large so I think it would accommodate her better. She has a larger wheelchair and the apartments there has a lot more room to move around when you're in it. If you need the Hoyer lift, that's available there too. There's also room in the living room and the bedroom to be able to use the Hoyer lift. She doesn't need one right now, but if any time she needs it, it will be available. The bathroom has a large shower, enough that you could get a wheelchair in there to transfer the person onto a seat. In the kitchenette area, you can pull right up to the sink to wash your hands or wash a cup. They accommodate people a lot better there and everything is more accessible to people who are in a wheelchair. The whole place is new and the person that I spoke to was very accommodating as far as giving me information and showing me around. The day I was there, there was a fire alarm that went off and they were all apologetic. I said, "Oh, no. I'm happy and this is perfect because I can see how you take care of your people here." They were really quick and were able to make sure everyone was safe. What happened was there was a problem in the laundry room but it was very nice to see that all the employees were everywhere right away. Certain things came down to block the people so that they don't go wandering off during a fire drill. I felt that it was very educational for me. I did not make an appointment so when I walked in, I asked the girl at the reception desk if I could speak to this person. When that person came out, she said my name right away and said, "Thank you for coming all the way up from Florida" like she knew who I was. It was also not one of those things where I had to wait a few minutes and have her look me up before she came out to greet me. I thought that was very nice.
