About This Community

The Meriwether is inspired by a sense of exploration, just like Meriwether Lewis and William Clark as they set out to discover the yet-undiscovered. We believe all life stages can be filled with adventure, growth and uncovering the newness of each day. The Meriwether offers a vibrant, interactive community where your spirits can soar, as well as comfortable, elegant apartments and suites where your spirit can rest and reflect. After all, isn’t that what home should be? The best adventurers have experience behind them. They know what to look for!

As a part of the Agemark Senior Living family, The Meriwether concept was born out of more than 35 years of experience creating warm, engaging communities for seniors. We’ve had the joy and honor of serving thousands of individuals who have called our communities home – from those who are fully independent to those who need additional supports to maintain their independence, or a specialized memory care environment. When we planned The Meriwether, we were determined to bring the warmth of home into every detail. But that wasn’t all. We also wanted to create a carefree environment where residents enjoy not only the comfort of home, but the perks and benefits of living in a community that caters just to them. This joined with our dream of also incorporating an “age in place” concept. Residents would have no need to move from their friends or their favorite meal prepared by the chef. Here residents create a beautiful home at The Meriwether, and a life full of social engagement. Caring staff provide the exact services and supports they needed, even as those needs changed.

What We Believe at The Meriwether

We believe all senior living is independent living. Some people may simply need additional supports along the way. Your life, your choices and your goals are just that – yours! Our goal at The Meriwether is to provide you with the supports and services that help you maintain your independent, active life. For some residents at The Meriwether, no special support is needed. For others, needs may range from light assistance with daily activities to a specialized environment to keep them healthy and safe. Our aim always remains the same: to encourage and make possible as much independence and choice as possible.

We believe that every person deserves moments of joy each day.

We know this is different for each person, and that’s why we are excited to get to know you! We want to know what activities, experiences or events spark joy in you. What are your unique interests? In addition to getting to know each of the people who make The Meriwether their home individually, we also focus on providing a wide variety of activities and opportunities for life enrichment. The more variety, the more joy we can create.

We believe in treating people like family.

To feel at home, we all need kindness, caring and warmth. That’s what we promise you. While beautiful physical surroundings, delicious meals and opportunities for continued learning, growing and exploration are all parts of what make The Meriwether a wonderful place to live, none of those can make it a home. When our company started more than 35 years ago, this was our highest goal – to make sure people feel like family. That’s still our promise – to ensure that each person living at The Meriwether feels that way.

I have seen The Meriwether. They were very sweet. They were very nice. That's a nice facility there. However, it's a little on the outside edge of where we like to go, and we want to keep it closer to Glenwood, Iowa. The staff was very sweet and very accommodating. She answered all the questions that I had. She gave me a very thorough tour of the place. I was really impressed with the place itself, too. It was neat. I can't remember the activities so much, but I remember that there was quite a list. They got restaurant-style dining where the people could go, sit down, and their order would be taken, and it would be made for them like in a restaurant. They also had what they called the little bistro, where if all they wanted was just a Diet Coke, they could go and get a Diet Coke. The individual rooms were very nice. The bedrooms were fairly roomy. I only got to see the one-bedroom, I didn't see the studio or any of the other bedrooms, but the one-bedroom was very spacious, and it had lots of closet space. The place itself was very nice, well-kept, and clean. It was overall very nice. However, for me at least, it's not convenient to go visit my mom if we were to pick that place. That's really the only downside for me personally.

The Meriwether is a brand-new facility, and it's only two years old. The people seemed friendly. I talked to one or two girls that gave me the information I needed. I took a tour of everything, and I was impressed with it. The facility was nice, and the rooms were nice. I checked out the one-bedroom and the studios. They were both nice and spacious. I didn't know you had to furnish your own room, and I was kind of surprised by that. They had a kitchen, sink, shower, and everything. My mom has a walker, so she can't walk very far. And the facility is like two- or three-story levels. I was hoping that maybe she would stay on the main level, but it's not up to her or me. That's the only reason I don't like it because you're going to take an elevator up. I asked them if we could bring food, and they said that would be fine with them. They have things that my mom would be interested in. They have their own hair salon, so that was a plus. They do have Sunday church services. They have bingo and puzzles. They do have activities.

I would describe The Meriwether as a beautiful property. The rooms are spacious for the rate of payment compared to some of the other properties that we looked at. It has a lot of amenities that are included in the price. Other places include a lot of those amenities also, but then there are just the little things like doing their laundry that are included in Meriwether. The overall environment felt comfortable for me and my sister. We were the ones who were touring, and we felt that it would be the best fit for our mother. To my understanding, they have a professional chef on staff, so I really wasn't worried about the food. There's quite a variety of activities, but the things that we thought would match up with our mother the most were the exercise classes and the craft classes. They also go out on rides every day to get out, just look around, and get a different atmosphere. When covid restrictions are eased a bit, I think they'll be having entertainment come into the facility; so that'll be nice. They also have a beautiful courtyard.

My mother moved into the Meriwether. I find it very acceptable, and so far we're very happy. The food is excellent, and everybody is very pleasant and very kind. The rooms are beautiful, nicely furnished, it's a brand new facility, everything is new, and so far very clean. Yesterday, they came and asked if mom wanted to go to a movie, and they had bingo the other day. The pricing was very attractive.
