Nobody Understands Memory Care Like Maple View…..We Get It!

Caring for an individual who is suffering from Alzheimer’s, dementia or other memory impairments can be one of the most challenging situations a family can experience. While it’s never an easy choice to ask for help, joining the Maple View family is a decision that you can feel good about.

At Maple View Bismarck, we give memory-impaired individuals the attention they need to live a fulfilling life. At the same time, we provide families with the independence they need to live their own healthy life. Each family is different, and each individual is unique, and our care reflects that. We are one of the first memory care facilities in the region to offer Montessori-Based Dementia Programming® – an innovative and effective method of working with memory-impaired individuals to engage them in challenging, yet failure-free activities, based on their individual backgrounds and interests. This approach creates a peaceful and nurturing environment that enhances the skills required to perform basic tasks and can actually lead to increased independence among our residents.

Maple View was the only place we had, so we didn't really have a choice. My family was not greatly impressed. It seemed like they only wanted people who have lost most of their faculties. People were just kind of walking around, not really able to hold much of a conversation or anything. My dad needed more than to sit around the table and sing old songs because he wasn't as bad as the rest. He needed something to do, some stimulation, and there was none. It just seemed like they didn't want to bother with him because he was more work than the others. And they wanted him out of there. So we weren't really happy with them. The staff was friendly to us as long as we weren't letting them know that we weren't happy with certain things, and then they weren't as friendly. I have to admit, my dad was getting a little unruly, but he was so bored to death. I didn't see much activity at all. They never took them anywhere. Sometimes they would have a special dinner. The rooms were OK. No curtains on windows. They could have made it a little nicer. It's just looking out on a parking lot. The furniture is old, but it was OK. Carpet was worn out, but it was better than some that I've seen. The facility was a smaller size, and I think they only took in 23 people. So you didn't have to wander through the hallways trying to find the room. But in a way it was too small. There was no exercise room or anything like that. He had some things stolen. It could have been other patients, but nothing was ever recovered.

Maple view is a beautiful facility. Helpful staff keeps us informed of how our relative is doing. I highly recommend them.
