I like that Brookdale Morehead City was large and airy in terms of rooms and facilities. The dining room was large and comfortable. Everything was clean. The residents seemed very pleasant and happy to be there. The staff was friendly. The physical building itself was older. It was not quite as elegant as the other place, especially in the residence hallways. They had better room options. They have one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms. Their prices were a little less. I did tour the kitchen and speak with the chef. It was between meals and was very interesting. It was very clean and very thoughtful in terms of the preparations.

I chose Brookdale Morehead City for my sister. I was impressed with it. It was a most attractive building, with a nice porch out front. The interior is very well kept. The staff is most pleasant to deal with. They've got meals. They've got the nursing staff. Plenty of activity rooms, two or three of them around, TV rooms, a nice dining area, and an area where you can sit and entertain your friends. And just overall, it was nice and comfortable. It's an older building, but it's in excellent shape. I liked the neighborhood, it's nestled right in a residential neighborhood.

Brookdale Morehead City was good. They didn’t have independent living, only have assisted living and memory care. Everything was nice except they didn’t have the service that we were looking for. The rooms and everything was very nice. The staff was very accommodating.

We are able to move my mom to Brookdale. It is a nice facility. They make a change in their corporation, and they switch their name. I think they are not a different corporation, and I will have to say their staff in the new corporation is even better than what they have before. Each person can have their room the way they want. In other words, a lot of the people suffer from Alzheimer's or dementia, and so I believe the their sons and daughters decorate their rooms for them, so their rooms are nice. The staff is good. Their eating facilities are nice. It is formal dining. I will say that if you have a mother, you will want to put her there. She is in a locked-down part of the facility. I know that sounds negative, but it is not. Inside that facility, it looks like it is a shopping adventure. It's like walking into a mall inside. The ones that want adventure out, they have a bus for them. They are able to go to Walmart weekly. They are able to go to the bank. As long as the residents there are physically able to go, they are taken out by a nice woman. They have bingo, cards, and volunteers that come mid-week who sit around and spell words. There is a woman who volunteers there who meets with the children and keeps them informed about dementia and Alzheimer's.

My father, a veteran, was transferred to Carolina House in Morehead because he needed more care with his dementia. However, when they had him medicated, he tried to open one of the doors there and they screamed at him. This threw him back into Vietnam all over again ad he never came out of it. He attacked three staff who tried to stop him and I had to involuntarily commit him to a hospital. They had kept him in the psyche ward for two days and they were very good to him but he started going downhill. He lost a lot of weight. The dementia had hit him really hard. We transferred him to a hospice facility in Lexington and after two days, he passed away. I'm not satisfied with the whole company. I haven't complained myself enough to write a letter yet, but a letter is going to their corporate headquarters.

It was a beautiful place. The rooms were nice and the surroundings clean. The only reason why I didn't chose this place was there was no lift for my wife. She's bedridden and it's difficult for her if this facility doesn't have one. However, one thing that really impressed me was the way the staff accommodated their residents. I will recommend this place to others.
