Brookdale Shelby's staff is very pleasant and do a good job. People are friendly and take good care of you. They have good nursing staff. The room is pleasant and sufficient for my needs. They have some games, puzzles, reading groups, and therapy which is very good. The place feels homey.

I visited Brookdale Shelby for my grandmother. It was expensive. The staff was very nice and friendly, but my only negative is that it is an older building and the rooms were much smaller. They did have lots of activities going on. They have transportation services for doctor's appointments and other outside things, like shopping or museums. Their dining room was nice too.

Brookdale Shelby was average. The rooms were small, and the carpet was old. It is in a very nice area of town, but the facility itself needs updating. They were friendly, but I didn't think they went over and out of their way; I just think they did the minimal to assist us.

The management was rude and very unprofessional, the nurse had no compassion, there is no way I would put my mother here nor would I refer this place.

Sterling House of Shelby was a very nice facility but it just did not have a memory care unit, which I was what I looked for my mom. They had very good accommodation. The rooms were very nice and very well-maintained. The staff whom I interacted with were good. We had a meal during the visit and it was excellent.

When our mother moved into Sterling House in 2009, my siblings and I felt tremendous relief that she was in a safe, nice, caring environment. Our mother, however, wasn't thrilled. Understandably, she was grieving the loss of autonomy and independence (she lived independently until she was 89). But after several months, she adjusted and accepted the transition.
Over the next 3 years, I spent a considerable amount of time at Sterling House, visiting my mother, interacting with employees, and talking with other residents. Not once did I hear or see anything that made me reconsider my mother's move there. On the contrary, I was impressed and at times very moved by the employees' professionalism and their respect for and tenderness toward my mother and other residents.
For families as well as individuals, It's a challenging, sometimes wrenching thing for an older loved one to move into an assisted living facility. When our mother died in December 2012, we were awed by the level of care and love she received from Sterling House up until her final moments. Words cannot express the gratitude my family felt and continues to feel for Sterling House.

Sterling House of Shelby was a very nice facility. But my aunt would be far away from her church, so I don't really know if she'd want to move there. We saw the room that was available at that time, and it was nice. The lady that entertained us was very nice and treated my aunt like she's known her for a very long time. There was nothing wrong with the place at all.

My mother makes her home at Sterling House. She is given excellent care and all of the employees seem like an extended family to us. Mother is able to live a very independent life-style at Sterling House and the transportation services facilitate her autonomy. The chefs are wonderful and having meals with her at Sterling House is a treat.

My mother has been living at Sterling House of Shelby for almost 2 years. She and the whole family have been very pleased with the facilities, the staff, the food and the activities offered there. I do not think that you can find any place better.

My mother in law is a resident of Sterling House. She was reluctant before coming. Now, she raves about it every time that I see her. My husband and I have been exceptionally please with the facility, level of care, meals, and assistance, and activities that they provide. It has become home for my mother in law. She feels safe and secure there.

After more than 50 years in spencer, NC Rowan county, I came to Sterling House Shelby. I didn't know anybody but since my children are scattered I came where my daughter Kathryn is. I have been happy here and everyone is very helpful and kind. Even though they give us to much food.
